How to edit the /etc/*/*.conf-files, so they DO get used by the phone

Hi there,

got a little problem here: I want to "adjust" some settings within several .conf-files within the /etc/-directory (e.g. /etc/bluez/audio.conf, et al.) but somehow, these settings (discoverable timeout to 0, etc...) are ignored by the phone. Tried it at almost every available ROM ranging from 1.5 to 2.1 but no success...

Is there a way to get this to be done?
