Guest WallaceTech Posted May 8, 2010 Report Posted May 8, 2010 Hi guys. I am moving over from jail breaking iPhone to HTC Desire. Now i am thinking i would like to do this as i like a bit more control over my phone. However one thing i am confused about is the version of the software after rooting. So for example my desire will vcome with 2.1 i guess but after rooting it will i still ber on 2.1 or will i be using an earlier version of the OS? Sorry if this is a noob question but i cant see for sure. Craig
Guest aslocum Posted May 9, 2010 Report Posted May 9, 2010 there is no other version as 2.1 for the desire
Guest nollie Posted May 9, 2010 Report Posted May 9, 2010 Not to take over this topic but I'm also thinking about rooting, but honestly a little scared to do so and have a few questions. As far as I understand rooting the Desire will also install a new Generic ROM. I own an HTC Desire, bought from Virgin (UK) with Build/software number 1.15.405.4 CL155070 release keys. When booting there is a splash screen which has the 'Virgin' logo. I read in another thread that with this software version I would not need a GoldCard - is this correct? Is there a way to easily backup my installed applications and contacts to the SD card, and restore after rooting/flashing a new ROM? One thing I am mostly worried about is whether will OTA updates will still work and if not, will I have to re-flash the entire device and start again from scratch to install them?
