Hi!

How do I update the bootloader? If it's possible ONLY to update this (without erasing other things in phone), how do I do that?

If I have to erase everything - the question is the same - how do I do that? :-)

Thanks in advance!

You need to use the USBterm program to change the bootloader.

The following french site has this program and a copy of the old bootloader (which you will need to transfer onto a SD card using a card reader)

There's also some other bootloader versions, both older and newer, here - just in case you don't have a backup yourself. Click on BOOT SPV at the bottom of the page.

I don't understand a word french!

Can someone help me a little more here  I have a SD card, and I have the USB cradle, but I don't have the software that comes with the SPV (I haven't bought a SPV phone, just the cradle).

Can I make the update anyway? How?

Thanks in advance!! ;)

Just for the sake of good order: This is *entirely* at your own risk - anything happens and you somehow manage to fry the ROM on the SPV you're working on, tough luck. Sorry to put it in such hard terms, but I'm not going to take any responsibility for the following:

What you'll need (according to our French mates @ www.smart-expert.com):

A min. 32MB SDcard

An SDcard reader

WinHex (full version)

A little courage [a lot, I'd say, 'specially if it's not your phone]

The ROM zip I mentioned above

....then follow the instructions on this page (translation-link below) It's not especially hard going, even if you don't understand french, as there are screenshots that illustrate every step. The part you'll be needing to use is about half-way down the page, entitled "Restauration d’une rom", but look the whole article through first....

You'll now use WinHex to write the chosen ROM image to your SD card, which you will then restore to the SPV by using USBterm. It's in french, but it's not difficult to figure out (similar to the Boot Menu from v. 0.93, really)

From now on, you're at the mercy of this google-translation, as my french/english translation abilities leave a little to be desired. Post here or PM me if you need any more help; the google-translation of this page isn't _terrible_, just slighly crap

After you've successfully updated the Bootloader, install the latest SPV-update (can be found at Monos Site, http://www.monolithix.org/SPV_software.html, or http://orange.dk/spv for the DK version) and you should be sorted....

Hope this helps.

I don't have a SD card reader, but I have an iPAQ with support for SD cards (that's where I use the card I have). Can this be used?

If not, can I go to an Orange store, and get them to update it for me?

SDcard readers cost so little (et par hundrede kroner) that you may as well get one - depends on how many people want you to do stuff on their SPVs, I suppose. One thing Orange shops certainly *won't* do is to up/downgrade the bootloader on it's own. They'll install the latest software update for you tho', and this updates your bootloader to v. 0.98 - but if you have a cradle, you can install the s/w update yourself? So unless you want to try the above method, there are some SPVs you won't be able to unlock....yet

Ehh, now I'm confused :-)

Are you saying, that if I just installs the newest s/w update - then the SPV will get newest bootloader too?

yes. the original reason people didn't really want to install the latest DK update was that Orange/HTC seem to have blocked for de-certing - the USB drivers get loaded as the last thing after a hard reset, so ActiveSync can't "see" the SPV until the provxml files have been fully parsed. This doesn't matter now as we can officially de-cert over the net. The DK2 update includes bootloader 0.98, then you'll be able to use the SIM-unlock app with no problems, apparently. Not totally sure, I did mine while the bootloader was still at v.0.93.
