Problems with google account on pulse

Hi,

Since i got my pulse i have had problems setting up google accounts. The first time i tried i continuously got the message saying that it could not connect to the server. After 2 days i put this down to the fact that the email address asociated with the google account was an @sky.com one and not an @googlemail.com. I then decided that i had no option to create a new account for my phone (which i did through my phone). This all worked nicely untill i saw an article on the BBC news website saying that google could now use @gmail.com again and that existing users could change to it. Realising that this would save my time (especially when im on my pulse) i decided to change it through the account settings on my PC. I then found out that my phone, set up with my old @googlemail.com address, no longer recieved mail sent to me due to the change in email adress, although emails sent to the @googlemail.com would be forwarded to the new one. I then cleared the data on my phone from settings > applications > manage aplications > google apps, thus wiping the old account. Now when i try to access a google service (e.g. market or sync) it asks me to login, as i expected. I did this but i got the same message about not being able to reach the servers. I tried continuously but got the same message. Thinking it was a problem with the account name i changed it back to @googlemail.com but i get the same message.

I am now stuck without access to my google account on my phone which means no market or anything, and i dont want to have to create a new account and change my email adress for everything everytime i have to update my phone or something.

Does anyone know how i can fix this problem, if it is a problem with my phone?

Thanx

Aaron

Hmmmm.. I never had to change anything with my google address, both @googlemail and @gmail both log me into and send me mail.

I am unsure at what exactly you have done :P

Sorry

If you have recently wiped then you could try reflashing a custom rom or restoring a nandroid just to confirm that it is a problem with your google account.

Sorry I'm just plucking at straws here.. Hopefully someone else can help you out :P

I'm sure it has nothing to do with your mail account or anything. I have entered a wrong pwd once or twice, and it said the combination of mailaddress/pwd was not recognized on the server.

I guess you just don't have a working data connection to Google. That happened to me just a while ago: my pulse didn't want to connect to the Google servers anymore, no Wifi, 3G or GPRS. Rest worked fine: browsing/roadsync. A reboot didn't fix it, nor did a wipe and Nandroid backup.

In the end I did a complete wipe, reapplied the rom, lost an hour entering settings and installing software, but it works flawless ever since.

That would fix it I guess?

Off topic but I just wanted to say thanks for the googlemail to gmail info - one of my accounts was a googlemail and it's been annoying me (so much more typing!!). I know I could have just used it as gmail but I'm a little ocd.. lol. Fortunately it's not the account linked to my phone so I've not had any problems.

So basicly im going to have to reset my phone and set it up again?

Does this just mean putting a new ROM on it or will i have to do someting else?

Thanx

Flashing a new (the same) rom, AFTER a complete wipe, is what worked in my case. Since resetting was a bit quicker than troubleshooting, I went that route...

How do you do a complete wipe then?

In recovery mode you can chose for things like 'wipe /data', 'wipe /dalvik-cache' etc. Apply every option that has 'wipe' in its name.

Come to think of it: are you running a custom rom at all?

Otherwise, go to a T-Mob shop and let them fix this.

I wiped it and installed the MDC vanilla 1.7 ROM and it worked! unfortunately i found this ROM to glitchy and so i wiped again and restored the backup. Now it still doesnt work =(

Any other suggestions?

BTW i have rooted my phone and applied the custom recovery image. If i took it to T-mobile store would they pick up on this (will i have to undo these)

I found this thread http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Goog...6e69b&hl=en,

which gives this solution: http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/a...y?answer=113869

You could try that.

Otherwise, indeed unroot phone and apply standard rom and off to T-Mobile.
