Hello everyone, i got an SPV about two months ago and have been reasonably happy with it apart from a few minor probs. However i now have one which is getting me passed all over the shop between three companys.

After i got the SPV i installed all-explorer, no probs at all and it was working fine. I then tried to install istatus (anyone used this) and it wouldnt install, comes up on teh screen as PPC Link istatus.cab succesfully installed and then nothing  I dodnt worry to much and tried installing another couple of aps but they wouldnt install either... same thing happened but the file name didnt change no matter what i tried to install.

I later on installed the new update whoch went fine although crashed about 5 times during installation!!

I then started to mess around witha few new themes and my all-explorer had run out. I bought a copy of it and went to install... guess what PPC Link Istatus. cab succesfully installation in progress and nothing happens.

Orange blame handango - Handango blame Istatus - Istatus blame anyone who isnt there etc etc

I cant even find any cabs at all on the blooming handset using windows search on my PC (win XP pro) so i dont know where its getting it from.

Sorry about the length of this but its driving me nuts!

Any ideas??

Would it help to do a full hard reset then run the update again?

Sounds like hard reset time, unfortunately. I did the same when I first got my SPV, tried to install a PPC app. with the same results. There's no real choice other than a hard reset, I'm afraid.

I have one idea, whether it'll work or not is a moot point - and it requires that your SPV be de-certed; you could download SmartExplorer, unpack the .CAB file on your PC, rename the smarte~1.001 file to smartexp.exe, copy it from your PC to your IPSMWindowsStart MenuAccessories menu and then run it directly from there. If it runs OK, navigate to your IPSMWindowsAppMgr directory. Delete (using [select] and then [Cut Selection]) any references to PPC Link iStatus, then navigate to the Install subdirectory and do the same there. That _might_ help. Good luck if you decide to try it

thats the new bootloader that comes with the UK1 update, you have to use USB term to access the bootloader functions again. think its detailed on www.collsmartphone.com ? not sure though.

Hi.

I'm having all sorts of problems installing Apps. Just bought 2 from Handango (GPRS & London tube) - both seem to install perfectly fine, but are nowhere to be seen.

So I did a hard reset, tried again - and nothing. What else can I do?

To the phone. It apparently is a common problem - here's the advice received from All Locations, but which I had already tried:

"Delete the folder IPSMwindowsAppmgrinstall

This folder is not visible from ActiveSync. In case you have ActiveSync you can delete IPSMwindowsAppmgr

After doing this you have to re-create this folder, you can just install any application that came with your SPV's SD card to do this. When you have taken these steps, you should be able to install your Software again."

But this hasn't worked either. What on earth can I do?

Were they PPC apps? These are not compatible with SmartPhone.

Check IPSMWindowsAppMgr and remove any rogue folders for mal-installed programs, including the ones you are having diffculties with (leave any properly installed application folders though).

Then recreate your Activesync partnership and see if a SmartPhone app will install.

They're smartphone apps, and I've removed the install folder more times than I've smoked fags. I give up, sodding phone!

Mate, relax. Do you have the latest s/w version, for starters?

If you *really* can't find the shortcuts to these apps after you've installed them, try a hard reset again. If you still don't have any luck installing/running the buggers then take your (seemingly) dodgy phone back to wherever you bought it from and demand a replacement as it doesn't seem to be functioning as it should.

BTW, I do understand your frustration; I'll bet everyone here at MoDaCo does - most of us have been through hell and high water with our SPVs at one point or another....perseverance generally pays off

I've had this sod since day one and it's never played up - I just happened upon these 2 apps and thought "must have. now." I haven't had any chance to play with the SPV, apps and all - I've only used it as a phone, and for the email which personally I think is bloomin marvellous. (got extra 3 months free GPRS the other night, which was nice).

Right. I've hard-resetted it the other day as I thought that would help. Perhaps I'll try one more time, and delete the Install folder as soon as it's rebooted, or whatever the terminology is.

Be so satisfying to wing it out this window onto the tarmac!
