Guest tomgrek Posted April 3, 2003 Report Posted April 3, 2003 Hi guys, I have finished v0.1 of the program SMS2Mail, which transfers SMS (Text messages) from the SPV's inbox to Outlook on the PC. See this page: www.geocities.com/tomgrek for the download and a bit of information on it. Enjoy!
Guest Thurstan Posted April 6, 2003 Report Posted April 6, 2003 This is absolutely brilliant! I don't know why you even need to make a user interface it works fine as it is... there is another app you can download for deleting old SMSs from your SPV inbox, so you don't need to include that. Thanks so much for this, mate!
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted April 6, 2003 Report Posted April 6, 2003 there is another app you can download for deleting old SMSs from your SPV inbox, so you don't need to include that. True and it works well, but I would prefer to do everything sms related in one app rather than multiple apps. Saves time and maybe space as well
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted April 6, 2003 Report Posted April 6, 2003 Requires Inbox sync though i would assume?
Guest tomgrek Posted April 7, 2003 Report Posted April 7, 2003 Yeah, unfortunate since I always forget to turn it back off afterwards and then can't receive emails for the rest of the day ;) I was thinking of having it write all the SMS into a text file instead, but eventually decided Outlook would be better. Any opinions? v0.3 should be along by the end of the week with a couple of speed-ups, emptying the inbox afterwards, and the ability to also sync sent SMS (assuming you save them) for that comprehensive record of embarassing drunken text conversations  This is more for developers, but: does anyone know a way of spawning a program on the SPV (i.e. SMS2Mail) when ActiveSync loads? e.g., is there an initialisation script by which you can invoke RAPI calls?
Guest kingbing Posted April 11, 2003 Report Posted April 11, 2003 Joining this one a little late, but I think the answer is yes, there is a way - CeRunAppAtEvent. Lets you run an app on certain events, including RS232 detect, which I believe is exactly how ActiveSync works
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted April 22, 2003 Report Posted April 22, 2003 Did you get any further with this?
Guest SFMH3 Posted April 26, 2003 Report Posted April 26, 2003 You can re-enable emails if you forget to turn active sync off - just go through the email settings and leave them as they are, once you've OK'd all of that it reenables the ability to receive POP mail
Guest leemrvnt Posted May 12, 2003 Report Posted May 12, 2003 why is it when I convert my SMS to email format some of the names are missing
Guest @ngel Posted May 12, 2003 Report Posted May 12, 2003 Well done TomGrek, Hope to get mine really soon in order to be able to test you s/w... Keep up the good work...
Guest fraser Posted May 14, 2003 Report Posted May 14, 2003 As others said, this app is a great idea. However, you need to enable mailbox sync for it to work? My e-mail is actually running with an IMAP server and I don't sync the e-mail in ActiveSync at all. Would I have to enable this to get the mails across? This would be bad for me, as it would sync up the IMAP mails on the phone to the Inbox of the PC, duplicating mails etc. If so, how's this suggestion: Outlook allows "Categories" to be set for each item. I use this to keep my thousand+ business contacts off the phone, as it's only set up to sync the "Friends" and "Business - Close" category. (the later is my boss, co-workers etc, those in the corporate directory that I may actually have to call) Would it be possible for this app to set a category of "SMS" in each message? Then, you could set up ActiveSync to only sync mails of that category. Problem solved.
Guest ist Posted May 29, 2003 Report Posted May 29, 2003 great app, tomgrek. here's what i observed: - i dont see the names of the senders - some messages are copied into the drafts folder of the phone - it doesnt work is i set the inbox to sync in the phone's activesync; have to set it in the pc's activesync - i havent seen any announcement that the program has finished... good day to all....
