I was having grief using W7 x64 Ultimate, used the TinyCore method like this:

Open up to where you downloaded it, burn the ISO Image to a disk, turn off your PC, turn it back on with the CD in.

When it boots, at the bottom, click terminal.

Have your GoldCard in your unit, with the rootedupdate.zip on it, and boot into FASTBOOT. Plug it into the PC and run this in the termailnal window:

sudo mkdir /mnt/cdrom

sudo mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom

cd /mnt/cdrom/root

sudo ./step1.sh

Let that run then you should be into FASTBOOT. Press power, then using volume up/down & power for select, go to 'RECOVERY'. Then type:

sudo ./step2.sh

You're Done!

Thank you.

you mean using root r3 instead of r4 version?

does the r4 is only packing the commands in one file?

I don't need gold card.(it's non branded device)

So I'm preforming the process with the original microsd card inside the phone? or should i pull it out?

EDIT: I thought you needed a gold card for ALL Desires - this is wrong but at least I've got one!!

Just use the original card (or larger if you've got one) and put the ZIP on it and it should be fine

Hi,

Thank's for the quick reply.

when you are saying ZIP you mean the rootedupdate.zip ?

I just rooted with no problems using the tiny core R3 method in this thread.

One question though, so its rooted, i can see superuser item on my phone. But how can i get the cool apps like wifi tether, etc.. and how do i install kitchen roms?

cheers guys.

BTW just signed for adfree :P

I'm just working this out myself. Use the kitchen to cook the features you want and then click BAKE and it'll give you a ZIP file to download. I then assume you run step 2 again and this time flash the cooked ZIP file instead of rootedupdate.zip and it should work! Just waiting to hear on how to setup App2SD and I'll be good to go!

It work well on w7 64 Pro. No need to go through the Linux hassle, especially if you've never tried Linux before...

You just need to have HTCsync installed and running for the usb driver to work properly.

Once the phone is rooted, installing a kitchen rom is the exact same process as for a rooted stock rom. the zip file at the root of the sdcard, go to recovery, usb plug to computer, run patched adb, play with the recovery menu on the phone screen (wipe stuff, flash rom, partition/format sdcard). Same as always.

Had nothing but issues using w7 x64 - TinyCore method was a lot easier IMO and I have no experience of linux...may have had to run as admin for Windows but never tried it!

I was thought a2sd came with kitchen Rom. As I understand things to install kitchen Rom.

1 bake & download

2 copy to SD card

3 run step 2 of tiny core method

4 flash using kitchen Rom

Correct?

This is what I did:

  1. Download TinyCoreLinux
  2. Edit the ISO and extract the r4 root zip to a folder called "desire" on the ISO, then save the image and burn.
  3. Start TinyCoreLinux
  4. Open Terminal
  5. type the following commands
    sudo mkdir /mnt/cdrom

    sudo mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom

    cd /mnt/cdrom/desire

  6. Follow the instructions to do step1-linux.sh (sudo ./step1-linux.sh)
  7. Follow the instructions to do step2-linux.sh (sudo ./step2-linux.sh)
  8. Done!

Thank you all,

I just rooted my device using r3 method.

it took me about 10 minutes and everything seems to work.

regarding the modaco r2 release - i don't think we should do all the steps again. (1+2) i think we should just boot the device to recovery mode and choose flash zip from sd , choose the baked rom file and that's it.

am i wrong?

You need to put the phone into Recovery and then step2 again to get it to the green screen. Then you just flash off the SD card with your chosen ROM. Nice and easy!
