This is why i never understood why half the people were so excited about 2.1 for the pulse. It adds nothing exciting.

2.2 on the other hand :P

2.2 on the other hand :D

Thanks a lot :P

Ahhh! Nooo!

I didn't mean it like that :D

But tbh no one could port a stable 1.6 or 2.1

I just can't see anyone porting this and I really Can't see an official release :P

Well maybe Froyo works with the 2.6.29 kernel too?

But I don't know what would be with JIT then, as it seems to be part of the kernel, not Android ...

CONFIRMED BIGBEAR WORKING ON 2.2 PORT

;)

Go on, you know you want to :)

:D

As far as I know the source will be released in one week, on 19th of May.

I will definitely compile it and see if it runs on the Pulse (if I can somehow manage to reapply the dec update and restore the partition layout :( )

which source is that?

the one that huawei wrote?

they are giving you/us the complete source including the source for the drivers?

that would be nice :) - maybe we could rebuild them for 2.2 ... (or at least build around them)

kase

Nope I meant the Froyo/ Android 2.2 source code ;)

No I think this is the source code provided by google, if it uses the same kernel as 2.1 then it could be possible that 2.2 will work with the pulse also

plus if it is faster then we could see a definite speed increase with it than 2.1, very exciting indeed, everything is starting to click into place

Does this mean that the Generic/Vanilla 2.1 can be compiled to work with the Pulse with no errors?

To get back on message, nice speed bump with 2.2, good spot

Yap a clean build should work, that's what I'm going to try :)

2.2 will apparently run on a different kernel - 2.6.32

My understanding is that JIT will be built into the Dalvik VM, which is separate to the kernel, but may rely on the newer kernel.

So maybe we will get this next year after T-Mobile have done all their testing.

I doubt we will get this at all via T-mobile or Huawei. Considering the time it has taken them to get around to (nearly) releasing 2.1 for the pulse, and an average product lifecycle, I'd guess that the pulse will be obsolete before it happens, and they will be on a newer product (I don't mean that disrespectfully to them.)

If the existing hardware drivers would work with the new kernel, and a version could be compiled (or borrowed from another device with a similar chip), I guess it might be possible.

New kernel with working drivers needed ;) but we never got it from Huawei or T.

Its bad, because 2.2 include official APP2SD, what we need :)

I think this is still unconfirmed rumour. They seem to have been dragging their heels on this feature (which should have been in 1.0), though the rest of the platform features have been coming on in leaps and bounds.

I can understand the security, privacy, stability and piracy issues with apps on SD cards, but there are any number of ways to get around that.

Also on the unconfirmed rumour front, I read somewhere a google comment that when apps2sd functionality is released, it will be made available to existing / older phones, though I have no idea how they will do this, and am skeptical.

Yeah I know I was just joking. It's ironic that this brings so many performance enhancements which our low powered Pulses could do with, but we'll never see it, unless some magician cobbles together a ROM.
