Guest Johbremat Posted May 13, 2010 Report Posted May 13, 2010 Heya everyone. Picked up a branded HTC Desire and after a couple of days, took the plunge. All went well, though I had to skip through a few sources for all the necessary bits and bods: I'll see if I can get all the info together for the fellow novices... I've moved to a ROM that looks something like this: * Firmware version: 2.1-update1 * Software Number: 1.21.405.1 CL172503 test-keys * HBOOT: HBOOT-0.80.0000 Can generic/custom ROMs be loaded over one another, or do you need to use your goldcard each time? Can generic HTC_Bravo_WWE* ROMs now be loaded? The one I have in hand is 1.15.*(.) Once this is loaded I can install later and earlier firmware versions (upgrade and downgrade)?
Guest Johbremat Posted May 14, 2010 Report Posted May 14, 2010 Word of advice... If you happen to mess up part way through the procedure, start again. When I first attempted rooting my handset, I ended up restarting it part way, and when I saw that the branding was gone, thought I had finished. Apparently a factory reset and application of the boot.img in rootupdate.zip will get you to the end *sighs* Resources used: Create a goldcard @ MoDaCo (android.modaco.com/content/general-discussion/305672/creating-a-goldcard) Create a goldcard @ TheUnlokr (theunlockr.com/2010/03/10/how-to-create-a-goldcard) Set up ADB/USB Drivers @ TheUnlokr (theunlockr.com/2009/10/06/how-to-set-up-adb-usb-drivers-for-android-devices) Workaround for sync on W7x64 @ My Digital Life (mydigitallife.info/2009/08/24/workaround-for-htc-hero-sync-problem-in-windows-7) Paul's HTC Desire root procedure @ MoDaCo (android.modaco.com/content/htc-desire-desire-modaco-com/307365/04-may-r4-htc-desire-rooting-guide-now-with-hboot-0-80-and-os-to-1-21-support) Petr's HTC Desire root procedure @ Petr's Blog about Linux (linux.xvx.cz/2010/05/root-htc-desire-under-debian)
