I'm new to android. An error came up on Step 11 on the Tiny Linux Terminal it said: "mount: mounting /dev/block/mmcblk0pl on /sdcard failed: No such file or directory"

Then,

"Step 13: Once complete you should be back in the main menu. Now select the option to apply an update from a .zip archive. Choose rootedupdate.zip.tried this guide"

and for Step 13 it said zip file not found on the desire, were can i get this zip file from. I put in a new formatted 1GB MicroSD card.

Hey there, I am having troubles rooting my HTC Desire (Telstra branded). I was hoping that someone could help me

I have a Bootloader of 0.7500 and a rom of 1.16 and when i use the tcl_r4_desire_hb75.iso or the tcl_r4_desire_hb80.iso i get an error after performing step1 saying "error 41 Model id incorrect" and therefore step2 then tells me that it can not find the device to push the files to it. I have also done the goldcard thing and are lost. I hope you can help as i hate all the Telstra crap on it.

I look forward to your reply.

Cheers Paul

Your ROM is 1.16. As stated in the first post, the 0.75 one will only work on a ROM at or lower than 1.15.

I have now solved this issue 

The problem was the Goldcard image that i was using. When I made my original Goldcard I used the standard 2gb card that come with the phone, however I then had another 16gb card that I made the Goldcard (with the image that was sent to me) and then tried rooting with this one. After much reading and the Error 41 Model id... I went and created another image using my 16gb card and what do you know I am now rooted and free from the Telstra crap….

So for anyone else the Goldcard is vital as the SD card, phone and image are unique...

My Desire rocks now!!!!!!

Cheers

That's because folders don't have boot information. You need to burn the image.

Hmmm well what can I also say that most people before me haven't already stated about themselves..... I am completely new to Android... there I said it. I've downloaded the ISO and created a notable use stick but now but now I'm stuck on the terminal window. Can someone post up some screen shots on the correct way to enter the codes.. yes I know but thank you in advance .

I had the same error. I gave up and went to the R5 method but, this time, I used a Goldcard even though my 'phone isn't from a telco .... and it worked.

I used the Goldcard Tool (Google: Modaco Goldcard Tool) and was rooted in 15 minutes after two weeks of struggling.

Argh!

I followed this guide and everything worked fine. BUT -

Before rooting I was on

Bootloader 0.80

Software Release 1.21.405.2
After rooting I'm on
Bootloader 0.80

Software Release 1.15.405.4

The update to 1.21.405.2 is automatically offered by the device, is downloaded and starting, but suddenly fails with a red exclamation mark.

post-712238-1275738936_thumb.jpg post-712238-1275738943_thumb.jpg

Then I put the matching PB99IMG.zip onto my goldcard, which updates my device to 1.21.405.2.

But then I cannot use the recovery.sh from the TinyLinux CD, it just says error: device not found.

How do I get 1.21.405.2 back and keep the device rooted?

Thanks for your help.

I don't fully understand what you're trying to do. Can you explain what you have done in more detail?

Tried the R5 method and no joy. Was stressing out and getting quite fed up. Tried this method and it worked great. I now have a rooted phone.

I just need to get a new ROM on her and figure out how to get the Apps to SD working. I don't understand now to format exfat greater than 32mb as this is the highest option windows gives me.....any ideas.

anyway, thankyou very much.

cheers

You're best off using adb for formatting the SD card.

In more detail? Umm, okay...but I don't know which detail is missing. I read my post several times, but everything is in there.

My problem is that I had 1.21 before the TinyCore rooting process, but after a successful rooting procedure I end up with 1.15.

I want to know how to either root the device with TinyCore and keep 1.21 or update the rooted device from 1.15 to 1.21 and keep the device rooted, because I think it is not rooted anymore after I updated to 1.21 again.

I assume the /desire folder on the CD also contained ./recovery.sh, use that script to start recovery on your phone.

Power up whilst holding volume -, plug in usb, select recovery from the menu, run the script and install the update.zip with the rom you want.

(Put the ROM on your SD card beforehand, or push it with adb.)

My Desire is Unlocked. Do I need the Gold Card?

If it has any branding then yes. Mine was unlocked 100% but had Virgin branding, because of this I did it just to be sure (it can't hurt).
