You need to root to flash a custom ROM or you will get that error about signatures.

If you "factory reset" you may have reset the root and lost access to flash so redo the rooting process.

you should read the tutorials. (or the first root post. seems you haven't read it complet)

in your downloaded Root-Zip, ther is a "recover-linux.sh" "recovery-windows.bat" and "recovery-mac.sh"

boot in recovery mode, open a shell and start recovery-*

the you should see a green recovery. and you can flash

Included with the root script is a script for entering recovery in the future. To use...

* Turn on the device with the volume button held down

* Navigate to the 'RECOVERY' option on the menu, using the volume buttons to move and the power button to select.

* In your terminal window, enter either 'recovery-windows.bat', './recovery-mac.sh' or './recovery-linux.sh' as appropriate.

* It is recommended that you do NOT use the 'USB mount' functionality in the recovery image!

start your Desire into recovery mode (the sreen with the read triangle)

then do it like in the root process..

on Windows:

instead of "step1-windows.bat" click on "recovery-windows.bat"

on Linux

instead of "step1-linux.sh" click on "recovery-linux.sh"

after that you are in the green recovery
