non-factory reset

Over time I'm getting the impression that my pulse is getting slower. I, and many others, have had similar experience with (linux based) VirginMedia STB - I use this with a TiVo and if over time response to channel change signals from the TiVo become more sluggish this is a problem! The standard solution in TiVo forums is to use an digital timer switch to power cycle the STB every day to force a complete reboot.

As a result I was wondering if there was something similar I could do on my pulse (not necessarily automated). However, if I hold the power key and select the power-off option then restart it appears to return to the state I was previously in (e.g. same apps in notification line, starts in screen I was in and not home screen).

Searching here I can see I can do a factory reset which restores everything to original factory state which is far more severe than I want.

Is there anything in between these ... i.e. reboot Android from scratch leaving all installed apps, settings, etc unchanged

You can use the app "Cachecleaner" and let it clean your phonecache in specified intervals.
