Guest vampyre69 Posted April 4, 2003 Report Posted April 4, 2003 Is it me or is there a distinct lack of any new software or games available for De-Cert SPV's?
Guest spacemonkey Posted April 4, 2003 Report Posted April 4, 2003 There only seem to be maybe a dozen devlopers who regularly post here about things they do. Remember we're mostly hobbiest developers. I'd say the rate of release of new SPV apps from the free/de-cert community is no slower than the pay/certified community. If you want more apps, the SDK is freely available and you can start writing them  For games you can even get the gapidraw library which contains a good base set of game graphics functions and it's free too.
Guest fraser Posted April 4, 2003 Report Posted April 4, 2003 Vampyre69 seems to be right though...when the decert first came through the software exploded. Lately things are a bit more calmed down though...possibly because most of the obvious and "simpler" ports have already been done. I'm sure there's a few folk working on some interesting things as I type.
Guest casper508 Posted April 4, 2003 Report Posted April 4, 2003 Im still waiting for Soccer Addict and Baseball Addict. Cas
Guest spacemonkey Posted April 4, 2003 Report Posted April 4, 2003 The other thing is that it's dead easy to write games (apart from actually needing to write a game  ) but currently writing apps for smartphone is a pain as MFC etc doesn't exist. This means you have to build a lot of dialogues and stuff by hand. Hopefully this will become easier when ozone (CE.NET?) is released. Then we should see an explosion of simple apps. Also, games are much easier to port as they tend to be driven by hardware keys. Apps on the Pocket PC invariably rely heavily on using the stylus so much more work is needed to translate them into the Smartphone paradigm.
Guest capt_janeway Posted April 4, 2003 Report Posted April 4, 2003 Probably gonna get moved but I'll risk the wrath of Mono.... How easy is it to write themes and is it a case of downloading the SDK or do you have to know what you're doing? BTW: I'm just happy that you clever folk find any time to wite stuff for my SPV - left to me and my phone would be just a phone.....now it's a thing of beauty and envy among friends!!
Guest spacemonkey Posted April 4, 2003 Report Posted April 4, 2003 For themes (like homescreens?) you don't need the SDK. Some of the SDK documentation can be useful, but it's all online in MSDN anyway. All you need to do for themeing is edit the xml file for your homepage and put some pictures in too. The best starting point for that is to download someone elses homescreen (preferably similar in style to what you want) and start from there. This is slightly off this thread, for further themeing information look in threads in the customisation part of the forum.
Guest Chris b.a.r.f. I've written a single theme for a friend with "special needs"; I'm no xml expert, so I just used the MS homescreen whitepaper - see it here: http://tinyurl.com/47o4 There's also Bazz' introduction to xml here
