Guest naguz Posted May 15, 2010 Report Posted May 15, 2010 Hi, While I originally intended to keep my Desire Stock, the amazing cheapness of HTC and the lack of internal storage has made me change my mind. I have som apps with corrresponding data installed today, and I woukd like to keep this data. I have a nifty bash script from a user on xda that I used to pull apps and data off my Dream before wiping it, using adb pull. Do I have read access to the whole phone somewhere in the rooting process, after step 1 or step 2 t.ex? I am downloading the files now (baaad irror, being so slow while I am waiting impatiently :) )so I havent had a look at them yet, so I don't really know what they do. As far as i have understood step1 loads some custom recover into memory, but what dies step2 do? And could I use adb pull to pull out files after one of these stepps. As far as I have understood, it is possible to make a complete nandroid dump after step 2? If so, I could alwaysextract the needed files from the nandroid backup..

Guest EddyOS Posted May 20, 2010 Report Posted May 20, 2010 You can backup the apps by getting 'app manager' from the market but it doesn't backup the data, though (I don't think)

Guest naguz Posted May 21, 2010 Report Posted May 21, 2010 I'll give it a shot this weekend. But I think it overwrites the datadir when it flashes testimg.zip (it contains a userdata.img-file). However, according this, it is possible to backup the systemdir using busybox. If so, I would like to assume that it is possible to tar up the data dir too. However, I do believe the permissions would pose a problem, but then it should be a problem with the system partition too.
Guest sruon Posted May 21, 2010 Report Posted May 21, 2010 Pretty sure Mybackpro backups data, at least it asks if you want to save .apk or datas or both when I do
