Guest pedro87 Posted May 15, 2010 Report Posted May 15, 2010 Been trying to find some recent news about this, but all I can find are rumors dated february/march. Any new info regarding this issue? :)
Guest Kushan Posted May 15, 2010 Report Posted May 15, 2010 I'm guessing we wont know until more info on 2.2 comes out, as far as I'm aware, it's more of a limitation in Android than anything else. Here's hoping!

Here's hoping! The incredible seems to be coming with 720p recording and is shipping with 2.1 I believe .. so we might see it soon as an HTC update for the desire (haha yea I know how silly "htc" and "update" in the same sentence sounds)
Guest Kushan Posted May 16, 2010 Report Posted May 16, 2010 That would be nice, as long as HTC don't try to screw us by leaving 720p recording as an extra selling point of the incredible. Could also be that HTC isn't going to waste time porting the feature into a 2.1 update for the desire when they could just port it straight to 2.2 along with sense. A man can dream! I'm sure whatever the incredible has can be ported to the desire by SOMEONE, just like how the camera app for the Desire was ported to the N1 =D
Guest MaTiCeK Posted May 16, 2010 Report Posted May 16, 2010 Incredible does 720p video? Not to my knowledge... The EVO 4 should however do 720p.

As found on the incredible phone specs: It comes with a 1Ghz snapdragon processor, 8 megapixel camera with HD (720p) video recording Don't know wether this is accurate however.

Guest zaphod0 Posted May 17, 2010 Report Posted May 17, 2010 Would it not be necessary to have a H.264 hardware encoder/decoder to record at 720p? If so, does the Desire even have a hardware H.264 encoder/decoder? I read about the 720p video capturing a while ago. The more I think about it the more I think its not possible. Unless the Snapdragon is capable of software encoding at 720p? Just speculating...

I think there's another phone out there with the same chipset that can do it? Edited May 17, 2010 by Kushan

Unless the Snapdragon is capable of software encoding at 720p? Just speculating... We've known this for a long time, the desire does have the necessary harware for 720p recording. We however do not have it because HTC never implanted it software wise. With the EVO 4G coming with HD recording, we may expect either an update from HTC or a port of HD recording to the Desire. None of this is offcial, it is all speculation at the moment but what we are sure of is that the HTC Desire is indeed HD capable.
Guest Kushan Posted May 17, 2010 Report Posted May 17, 2010 The EVO 4G has a QSD8650 snapdragon inside it, the Desire has a QSD8250 so a simple port may not be trivial. Hopefully it will be, though. As far as I know, both chipsets are the same, just one is CDMA while the other is GSM.
