Guest alamr Posted April 4, 2003 Report Posted April 4, 2003 Hello, I want 2 buy an SPVx but the waiting seems soooooooo long. And I am very impacient. So I m opting 4 the SPV. Since I live in a different country(Bangladesh). I would need a sim free. SPV for Development seems perfect. Here is my question. How does the SPV joystick feel 4 playing games? and has anyone used the SNES emulater? r the games playable?
Guest spacemonkey Posted April 4, 2003 Report Posted April 4, 2003 The joystick (joypad) is useable buy annoying, the main problem is because it's not symmetrical you often end up going up and down when you want sideways. So it works, but not brilliant for accuracy (although you get used to it) The SNES emulator works but is very slow. Probably unplayably slow on most games. I've heard golf and things might be OK. gnuboy (gameboy emulator) is better but it's especially good for non-action games, like zelda or final fantasy or dragon warriors monsters. Doom is a cool gimmic, don't know how much you'd actually play it tho (but I'm not hugely into action games). SmartNES (NES emulator) is quick, but I haven't used it much. That help?

Guest Lunatech Posted April 4, 2003 Report Posted April 4, 2003 If you install the Gameboy Emulater I would also try to get my hands on the good old Nintendo "Game & Watch" games... Like Oil Panic, Donkey Kong etc. They play really well on the SPV/Tanager (maby the gameing experience could be better but there is allways time for some nostalgia
Guest Gorskar Posted April 5, 2003 Report Posted April 5, 2003 lets see. Ive tried quite a few games on my spv. Ill tell you a bit about them: Freeware: Boxy Pocket - absolutley ace puzzle game. ***** Doom - Impressive. Runs quite nicely, but has no save or gamma controls yet. I am still hopeful that mBoden or someone else will take the time to add this at some point in the future *** Gnuboy - A great gameboy emulator. Runs GBC and Gb classic games very nicely. Keys fully mappable, quite playable on most games, but slows down on some of the action GBC colour games. **** Invasion - Fun little distraction. Name says it all *** Nethack - A nice port of this RPG. Not really my type of game, but its nicely done, and will appeal to some more than others. **** PocketScumm - Impressive port of the scumm emulator, allowing you to play your old Lucasart cassic adventures on your phone - with a bit of messing you can even have all the music and sounds also! Only gripe is that cursor scrolling is a bit slow. *****
Guest Gorskar Posted April 5, 2003 Report Posted April 5, 2003 More Freeware: Rebound - Comes with the SPV. Soft of adventure/pinbally thing Nice graphics, but the gameplay put me off. ** Smartris - A nice little game of tetris on your phone. **** Snake2 Snake on your SPV. Basic but fun, and has the cool feature of saving your highscores to the internet. Unfortunately doesn't pause when you enter a menu or switch to another app. *** Solitare Comes preinstalled on your phone, and uses the phone controls very well. I can't believe how much time I waste on this. **** SPVMan A fun little Pacman clone, which is pretty faithful to the original. ***** TetrisSmartphone2002 Another Tetris Clone. Plays nicely, but doesnt have sound and control is not what I'd have chosen Smartris is better imho, but still a nice game. *** Tomatoblaster Only a few levels, no sound and not properly balanced. ** WaterMan Very 2nd rate game. Looks nice, sounds ok, but is incredibly boring/repetative. *
Guest Gorskar Posted April 5, 2003 Report Posted April 5, 2003 Comercial Games Motocross Stunt Racer One of two games I've actually bought for the spv. Stunning graphics, and gameplay, sound is ok. Some levels are a bit on the difficult side though, and is difficult to control with the SPV pad. Still a great buy though  **** Interstellar Flames The other game I've bought. (I got it when it was on offer for £1!) Not all that easy to control with the spv pad, but really shows off what the spv is capable graphics wise! Pretty good fun also. ***
Guest Gorskar Posted April 5, 2003 Report Posted April 5, 2003 Other Games I've only tried demos of. Tutti Frutti Rubbish. A simple puzzle game that is far too easy, boring and no sound. (At least thats what I got from the demo) * Turjar Now this demo was a lot of fun. A scrolling space shooter with first class graphics and very fast and fun gameplay. **** Gone in 50 seconds A puzzle game moving vehicles around to try and get certain ones out of a carpark. Great music, and lots of fun. This will probably be the next game I buy. ***** Odessy Another great scrolling space shooter. Much of a muchness with the turjar demo I tried. Also was a lot of fun, and probably worth your money. **** Sorry It took so many posts to get this out - for some reason it seems to just hang if I make a post thats too long, and then eventually I get a servor error
Guest yatpeak Posted April 12, 2003 Report Posted April 12, 2003 For commercial games, I would suggest waiting for Worms World Party and Speedway Jam, they're the ones I'm looking forward to! But in the meantime,` I would definitely suggest MSR, it's great! Wyatt
