as far as i know, battery monitoring will cost extra battery usage, no doubt....

according to Cyanogen when he removed the battery monitor in screensave

so the best way is just use the default one.. that way you can know the approximate battery left as well as saving ..

Battery monitors will drain lot of battery. The best way to keep under control your battery is under the settings -> about phone -> status with Android 2.1 :)

A lot of battery meter are also battery drainer... that's more or less true.

Nevertheless for that what's my experience, "Battery Indicator" is the cheapest in terms of battery draining
