Install Standard Contacts app on unrooted desire?

Hey - Got my desire the other day - i prefer the default contacts app compared to the htc one.

Is there any way to install the default google contacts app onto an unrooted desire?

I tried installing the apk from http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-desi...ct-application/ using htc sync but it failed.
