Bricked Omnia, can anyone help please?

Hi guys

A weird thing just happened. Activesync said it couldn't open up my usb port and asked me if i wanted to cancel the port.

I said no and rebooted my computer. I left my omnia connected to the same usb port and it found it fine.

I added a couple of cab files to the phone and installed them.

It told me i needed to soft reset and so i said ok.

After it soft reset itself and tried to boot up again (while still connected to the usb port) it showed the omnia screen, the bootup screen, but then when it should have been ready to go all i got was a black screen with heaps of random coloured pixels dotted around, and no action from any screen tap or hard-button. Basically useless.

I tried to hard reset many times with the soft-reset/call/end-button method, but nothing, it just tries to boot up again and gets to the pixel screen.

I uninstalled/reinstalled activesync on my pc, switching it on & off in between, to try & reset the usb ports.

The computer recognises that there is an i900 there for a few seconds but then disconnects it.

Worst of all activesync cannot find my phone whichever usb port i plug into, so i dont seem to have the option of reflashing, is that the case?

When the phone is switched off and then plugged into the usb port, the red light switches on and then the phone tries to boot up but only ever gets to the pixel screen.

I'm running xp on my pc, and i had recently flashed to Ock's GTX 23118 which was working great with no problems.

Is my phone bricked? Can anyone help? Sorry for the long winded post but i thought to provide as much info as possible.

Thanks

I hate activesync.

The cabs installed. What were they and did you verify integrity. Very few cabs require restart. Sounds malicious.

good day.

They were cabs from Ock's Rom post - ezi input keyboard and the cab to enable vibration feedback for the keyboard.

At the bottom of the second post.

Is there an alternative to using activesync?

Also anyone know a way to make it recognise my phone?

Thanks

If you were already on a custom rom; reflash it and be done with it! .. if not; bummer, i bet you still have your warranty?

Still, .. within a week i lost my warranty cos i got mine "pimped" with a custom rom .. you should too!

Yes i was running Ock's Premium GTX 23118 and it was working great.

If I could reflash it wouldn't be a problem, but activesync cannot recognize my phone, nor can the exe program you run to start flashing.

Is there another way to reflash without using activesync?

Try this ..

1. get off the hub !!!

2. take out battery

3. try another hard reset or reflash back to DC22 then to new rom.

try phone after each step as always hard resets cause the most work.

Don't use any backed file from backup programs . sometimes they carry problems forward..

hope one of these ideas help.

:) ;)

Have you asked your question in the i900 rom/flashing section? Not everyone in this area is a flasher you might get better coverage there. Or p.m. ock.

good day.

That would be bad he is from the other side of the pond. But can you brick a brick even more? :) I don't even think he can do UMDL.

Try a hard reset. Power the phone off completely. Charge it just to be on the safe side. Then hold down both the call and end call button and press and hold the power button. Don't release the three buttons until you get a screen asking you whether you want to format the screen. Format and it will reset after it's complete.

The keyboard is already in this rom, so I suppose when you try to install it again via a cab, this issue surfaces.

Thanks heaps for the replies guys.

I cant actually do a hard reset or reflash.

My phone doesn't respond to that hard reset method, i tried many times, it just tries to boot up again normally and then gets to the weird pixel screen and thats it.

My PC also doesn't recognise the phone at all so i cant reflash.

Wondering if there is another way to hard reset/reflash.

Thanks

Thanks everyone for your replies!

I was posted the solution to my failure to hard reset over in ock's rom thread.

This seems to be a pretty important little trick to keep in mind!

My omnia works again

Cheers

At first, hard resetting on omnia has a small "secret". When pressing call and end button, it is very easy to also press middle button (minitouchpad), and this prevents hard reset to be done.

So you need to press call and end buttons at the edges as far from the middle as possibly, and in the same time to press not very hard.

It requires some practice to do HR 100%. My first attempts were unsuccesfull too :-))
