OK, it's tidied up quite a bit.

get it here:

http://www.surrealservices.co.uk

Now, important: read the page linked above.

But in summary, it'll still be quite slow, haven't done anything for that. You can define all your own keys, these get saved in the registry. You can rotate the screen to Landscape Left, Landscape Right and Portrait, it'll automatically rotate your choice of direction keys to match this preference.

The dialogues that come up when you pick sound or display are controlled by up/down moving up or down, left/right changing the current field and action exiting the dialogue. The sound one may not exit on action unless you move the cursor right to the bottom to the slider thing. These are a mess but I didn't spend much time cleaning them up yet.

Sound: IMPORTANT. The only time I switched this on the emulator hung. I went back to the menu and switched sound off and it recovered. I haven't tested much (currently only testing with 1 ROM file) but don't expect much. Even if it does work I expect it to sound terrible due to the slowness of the emulator.

Enjoy... Any problems please post and I'll try to clean them up as they come in.

hi mate, great work well heres my review.

its faster!!! f zero is very playable!!wow!! pga and street fighter 2 are all playable. the graphics seem reduced but still cool, possibly can still lose some more detail if needed. the control option makes it alot easier to do and play. the sound works but its better off.

great however just waiting for somthing on the speed then its perfect. but other ot that wow great improvement, welldone thanks mate!!!

Not too hopeful on speed improvements. Currently the best source of possible improvements is the GP32 community... cos it's ARM based any ASM they do should be portable to the SPV (hopefully) and there's developers working on the same core emulator (yay) have to see how it settles down in the next few months.

Nice one mate, looks impressive however are any of the games actually playable or is it too slow for that, ive tried streetfighter 2 and the game loads but it doesnt let me select anything. just has the beginning demo like its waiting for me to play it.

Playability? who knows... kingodm master seems quite positive... to be honest, I currently only have one rom (micromachines) and that's a bit slow. I've heard there's a golf game that's good and also I'd look for RPG style things.

As to street fighter not moving on... it's possibly waiting for a key press like start, select,a,b,x,y,l,r something like that (I guess you know this since you own the original  ) try configuring the keys on the keys menu and then trying all the likely buttons...

Great work Spacemonkey ;) .

Speed is little better (really :( ) but very important to modify the display setting.

But if it's work on some roms, others roms are too slow to play  like arkanoid,...

I test for exemple Zelda.

The good display setting for Zelda (and roms games i test) :

Landscape (left or right)

valid Transparency Effect (very important with zelda).

Frame 2 to 5 is good value (i choice 3).

It's slow but more playable now .

A problem i see in Zelda, it's the text not very easy to read because some caracter are not complete

(think it's the resize make by PocketSNES, like you say :"Landscape mode left or right dropping 9/25 of the SNES pixels").

another problem:

- if i start PocketSNES and choise the display setting then launch the rom, the setting (like transparency, frame...) aren't validated in game (think it's because this setting aren't saved).

I must first launch the rom then choice the display setting and it's ok.

- PocketSNES don't save the frame choice and transparency Effect when i quit and restart SNES. (but screen choise like Portrait, Landscape Left or Right is saved  )

I test some roms and check sound on but sound don't work on all roms i test (i also test to reset the game and i try to change some sound setting but nothing more, sound doesn't work)

When i quit and restart PocketSNES some setting for sound aren't saved.

I think for sound and display, all the check box aren't saved...

Hi Space monkey,

i tried ypur latesed version of PocketSNES, but i have trouble getting this program to work.

I had the same trouble before and gave up on it, but i thought i'd try again since playing mario would be good.

the problem i have is that when i try to load a rom (whether there is a ROM or not) the screen changes to the next, and then just freezes, and doesn't do anything else. I always have to use task manager to get out of the program.

Please could you tell me, what ROMS you use that work with the program, and how exactly use install the program and the ROMS onto the phone.

Do i need to do anything else to my phone in order to get it working? Or am i just doomed from the start??

So, when you say load a rom and then it hangs... Your on the initial screen with a background that says pocketsnes and menus.

On the menu you choose load rom. The screen then brings up a list (or if you have no roms the screen will be blank....) is this where it is hanging? If so the problem is that you have no valid roms. It is looking for .smc and .fig files in the same directory as the exe file. If you press the action key (middle of the joypad) while this blank list is up it should choose "no rom" and then quit.

If it shows a rom list and you pick a specific rom and then the screen goes black and then nothing happens, it might be a bad rom. Usually if this is the case tho, however bad the rom is it should still accept pressing the voice record button returning you to the menus and allowing you to quit cleanly.

Does that solve it? Otherwise please post more detail about exactly where/how it hangs.

yeas this is where it is hanging, but from your response i know why, now. With the smc files can the program run them when they are in zip files, or do you need them unzipped?

also do you know a site where i can get the ROMS that work for your emulator?

i didn't realise the voice record button exits the load rom screen, thanks for that.

Hi spacemonkey,

I see a problem with PocketSNES.

5 minutes after starting SPV (when you see the banner page), the SPV make a "classic" calculation (it's the multi coloured round at the center of the screen).

In the other game (or gnuboy) there is not big problem with (some little freeze and after SPV end calculation normally) but in PocketSNES, i see the multicoloured round at the center all the time.

I can play but if i push the record button (if i want to quit), i see the menu of PocketSNES but i can't quit and do anything.

SPV crash.

Must remove the battery.

If after starting the SPV i play with an other game and(or) wait for the "classic" operation (5 minutes) and after i launch PocketSNES there is no problem.

fumaras... nice one, I'll have to try and hunt that down

goutetsuu - they MUST have file names ending in .smc or .fig It will definitely work with unzipped roms but MAY (as in not tested) work with roms that are zipped, 1 file to the zip but the zip file must be renamed from 'archive.zip' to 'game.smc' or something cos it looks specifically for the .smc file extension

the only two games that run great are F ZERO and PGA TOUR GOLF the rest arent very good. we need just a tiny bit more speed and it will be very playable. i to get the freeze when trying to sort the sound settings.

there must be somthing to help the speed alittle more. its just what!lol

what it is, is a faster processor or better code, neither of these things will arrive for a while...

Hi spacemonkey,

5 minutes after starting SPV (when you see the banner page), the SPV make a "classic" calculation (it's the multi coloured round at the center of the screen).

.

This calculation which occurs approximately every five minutes is the SPV making radio communication with the base tower. Have you tried turning "Radio Off" on your SPV?

Guest fumaras

Yes davidhorn (thx for your answer),

but after 5minutes (radio off)SPV make also a big calculation and if i play with PocketSnes, SPV crash when i try to quit (must remove the battery).

Else if i restart SPV (radio off) and wait 5 minutes (and see the end of the calculation), i can launch PocketSnes and all is ok, i can play a lot of hours with PocketSNES and quit the game when i want normally.
