Guest theletterj Posted May 17, 2010 Report Posted May 17, 2010 So my old WinMo phone finally went to the big coverage area in the sky last week. I subsequently put in my order for the Nexus One I've had my eye on for so long (AT&T). It should be here any day now and I've been planning to root and flash the Desire ROM onto it. However, the announcements and findings from last week regarding tethering, Flash, Linmark mips, App2SD, etc, have me thinking that Froyo is the way to go. Though I love Sense UI, it seems that Froyo offers more in the way of utility. No doubt Paul will be toiling away to get Desire ROM on Froyo, but my concern is if I root, I won't be able to touch Froyo (via OTA update) until that gets sorted out. So that basically means you have to choose one or the other. I know most people on this forum already have their phones rooted, so the point it moot. But if you were me, which would you opts for?

Probably if I were you I would not unlock or root until Froyo is released and your phone gets updated. Then when you are ready to root your nandroid backup will have Froyo. I'm very new to this stuff myself but I think that would be the way to go.

I'd agree with that, get the phone and get used to it, by then Froyo will be announced and you will have a better idea of what it is about plus when it'll be starting to appear on custom roms.
