Pulse USB port broken - have to return to shop?

My USB port has broken, which means no charging phone = useless to me! :)

Question is, as I bought the phone from the T-Mob website, surely I should be able to return it via post? After speaking to some guy in India on the phone earlier, he told me I need to take the handset to a local shop. Well, thats not a problem for me but its gonna be at LEAST 2 weeks until I can get there due to work. Is this right, does it have to be taken to the shop even though the phone was purchased from the website?

They will suggest the local shop first, but I think if you tell them that it isn't a good option they will put you through to technical support (after letting you wait a good long while on the phone). Technical support will ask you the problem and then will determine if you need to pay for it or whether the warranty covers it. No doubt they will try to tell you that it was your fault. But in the end they should send you a bag.

The guy I spoke to wasn't shifting on his idea that going to the shop was a bad idea. Even telling him that I physically could not get to the shop (I can without an issue, but still...) he insisted that I had to make my own way there or T-Mobile couldn't do anything about it. Useless.

Gonna repair it myself, £4 on eBay for the socket.

If you repair it yourself will it be as good as new? I was told by one repair shop that if they soldered it themselves they might not be able to restore all the functions, that's why I am persisting with T-Mobile despite there being no shops at all in my country.

I can't see why it would be any different, only 5 small contacts that need soldering. Obviously it'll bollocks the warranty. Other option is use the board from my old Pulse (broken screen). If I decide to solder it I'll post some pictures too
