Hello all, I am a newbie and I got a 2.1 Pulse Beta ROM here. I think I should contribute some pictures showing how to update your Pulse from 1.5 to 2.1.

Actually it is based on eckengucker1's How to update post.

I am from Hong Kong using 3HK and I got this Unlocked Pulse from Parallel Import Market this January.

The phone was inexpensive but the T-Mobile ROM is really slow and make me sick. So I update this once I found the r6.1 - BigBearMDC and Paul's Pulse 2.1 ROM here.

For Taiwan CHT8000 and HK PCCW U-Droid users, I suggest update only when official ROM release.

After using for a few days. The ROM is OK (at least it is faster and smoother than 1.5 T-Mobile ROM) but...

1. It random reboots.

2. You cannot add widgets because it will force quit

3. The phone does not vibrate when ringing

So use it at your own risk.

Last, Forgive me if my English is poor.

(Updated 27 May [GMT+8]: I tried updating Vanilla ROM yesterday and it also works)

Step 0: BACKUP YOUR DATA, COPY ALL DATA from SD card to your PC, Sync your contacts to Google!!

Step 1: Prepare these files, download from http://android.modaco.com/content/t-mobile...-android-v-2-1/

30003_394300831716_657861716_4669125_667923_n.jpg

Step 2: Reboot the phone pressing "volume-down"+"red-key" so it enters bootloader mode

30003_394300851716_657861716_4669127_1106891_n.jpg

Step 3: Plug your phone to your PC, unzip the superboot and run "install-superboot-windows.bat"

Run the "install-recovery-windows.bat" inside "1.5.2-pulse-amonrarecovery" folder

Your Pulse should look like this now

30003_394300856716_657861716_4669128_3284850_n.jpg

Step 4: Remove and reinsert the battery, press "red-key" and "menu" when turning on the phone

30003_394300866716_657861716_4669129_4642167_n.jpg

Step 5: Do a nandbackup, BARE YOU OWN RISK if you think you dont need this.

Select "Backup / Restore"

30003_394300871716_657861716_4669130_6631707_n.jpg

Select "Nand + ext backup" if you are using the app2sd or just "Nand backup" if you dont need app2sd

30003_394300876716_657861716_4669131_2806871_n.jpg

Step 6: Format and repartition your SD card (you can skip this step if you are not going to use app2sd)

go to "Partition sdcard"=>"Partition SD" (PARTITIONING YOUR SD CARD WILL LOSE ALL DATA)

- set "Swap size" to "0" (press volume-down)

- set ext2 size to 512 mb (depends on how lage you like it. It's the memory you'll install your apps on. Press volume-up/down)

30003_394300896716_657861716_4669134_1119574_n.jpg

Step 7: Wipe the Android 1.5 (You still can go back to 1.5 before this step!)

Select "Wipe"

30003_394300871716_657861716_4669130_6631707_n.jpg

Select "Wipe data / Factory Reset" (YOU CANNOT GO BACK AFTER WIPEING, BE CAREFUL!!)

30003_394300901716_657861716_4669135_4307185_n.jpg

After finishing wiping data

Select "Wipe Darvik Cache"

After a moment...

30003_394300906716_657861716_4669136_5053335_n.jpg

Step 8:

Select "USB-MS toggle" so you can copy the ROM from your PC to SD card.

P.S.: DON'T remove the SD card from your Pulse and copy with card reader, this fails!!

Copy the ZIPPED ROM from your PC to the Pulse SD card

30003_394300911716_657861716_4669137_5340724_n.jpg

Step 9: Go back to your Pulse and flash the ROM

Select "Flash ZIP from SD Card", then select the ROM you just copied.

30003_394300921716_657861716_4669138_1823822_n.jpg

Are you ready?

30003_394300926716_657861716_4669139_3606287_n.jpg

After a moment...

30003_394300941716_657861716_4669141_7053232_n.jpg

OK REBOOT the phone now, Android 2.1 is coming!

Honestly, if Vibrate was working I'd probably give in and update now, instead of waiting on an official one.

I was going someone was going to make a guide with pictures :D

Would have done it myself but my pulse can't be in two places at once.. Our its there an app for that ;)

Although you can skip making a nandroid backup I suggest you remove the option part as almost everyone who downloads the 2.1 rom will want to go back to 1.5, it would save then from posting a new thread when they can't go back.

Also make it clear that formatting the ms for apps to sd will wipe all their data, and emphasize that it is optional. (everyone knows where I stand when it comes to apps to sd. It just complicates things :)

Again very nice guide. Would you consider making it universal? By adding a few extra lines of text tutu could make the guide for installing any custom rom.

Excellent guide, having pictures makes it much easier to know what the heck you're dealing with. :)

Does this guide work with "MoDaCo Custom ROM - U8230 Vanilla Style"?

Making sticky.

Even if you only want to flash a stock pulse with MCR build the first bit is a great help.

Cheers

I can see your screenshot where you copy 2 files confusing people. Normally updates are only a single zip file.

I was coping the rom and wireless tethering apk to the SD card in order to save a bit time. (However I found that it does not work on Pulse)

Sorry for bit misleading, but the dialogue box shows clearly that I was coping the zipped rom.

Formatting SD is required isn't it? When using the vanilla 2.1 I can keep my existing ext partition and just apk fix so I don't have to reinstall all apps. When I try to do this with the Tmob 2.1, it just gets stuck on the 'Android' screen after installing/rebooting

edit: Nvm. Read the other thread, turns out you have to remove your SD card ;/ I'll use the vanilla 2.1 until Huawei releases the final

I followed your tut step-by-step, but if the SD card is in the slot it doesn't boot. If I pull it out, it works perfectly, buw w/o APP2SD!

What's wrong?

Thanks!

Installed 2.1 ROM (this one) and used this thread as help. So far i have to say it works! Im surprised how smooth it is. The menu nearly same speed as with 1.5, but other features works smoother. And : as im a hungarian i was surprised it set itself to hungarian language when booted  Sweet. So its working, and worth to flash it. :D

Thx for rrx78nt1 and

when you say before wipe you can go back to 1.5 does doing a nand restore not take you back to 1.5 ?

Guest rx78nt1

I mean... before you wipe the system you can still go back to 1.5 without reinstall anything, just reboot and it works.

after you wipe the rom, you need nand restore in order to restore the rom you are currently using.

wiping rom is similar to format your computer harddisk before installing any operating system to the computer
