1.100.05 still freezes up on me (solved)

I've been running both Xian 0.7a and LCR 1.6 on top of 1.100.05 and my phone keeps freezing on me (this happened since the first 2.1 leaks). With freezing I mean: I can't revive it from standby and the phone is not connectable to computer (to produce logcat e.g.). It happens almost reproducibly overnight and sometimes even after 5 minutes after been set to standby. Last week I was in Germany and switched data connectivity off due to roaming costs and it was extremely stable.

Are more people experiencing these problems (and less freezes when off-data)? What can I do to nail the problem down if I can't logcat when it's frozen?

I'd regret to use the vanilla 1.100.05 bin, but if that's the only way to find out, well then I need to do what needs to be done I guess?

I don't use autokiller and cpufreq is set to ondemand, default advanced settings and no profiles. Also, I didn't restore any backup, allways full wipe after flashing.

Update: solved it fixing data to 3G!

I have the same problem both on 0.014.00 and 0.010.00 with Liberated 1.42. I have flashed it many times but it's still freeze.

It seems to be linked with network/data for me either. Without sim card, it freezes too but less.

I have just flashed 1.100.05 with Vachounay and it seems to be stable for 2 hour at least ...

I also used to have this problems, it is caused by changing network from 2G to 3G , go to settins/wireless options/network options - and check "Use 2G only"

- I cant see any big slowness of network connection and it also saves a battery. Its a reason, why I cant confirn that it is also in new, 1.100.05 bin, cause I check 2G only when I flashed it;) But it newer happened to me since I have 1.100.05 +2G only - using it for 6 days;)

I have the problem, too. It's really annoying. I've noticed this problem with the stock rom without any customization. Because of that, i had to flash back a 1.6 Rom. I really don't want to switch off 3g, i hope they resolve this issue when they release the official 2.1 Rom. For now it is unusable for me.

Just found a speedtest.net app in the market. We could use it to test the network connection with 2G/3G.

I did a test this morning at home and - with 3G on - found I had an approx 3.3 Mb/s downstream and 1.2 Mb/s upstream. Wonder what others have. Of course things largely depend on the capacity and capabilities of the of your mobile cell... My provider allows for 7 Mb/s HSDPA max, 14 Mb/s if your device supports it but I don't think the Liquid is speced for it (yet).

EDIT: I just did a test again using the same app while at work.

with "2G only" disabled - down 5 Mb/s, up 1.2 Mb/s (ie. using 3G)

with "2G only" enabled - down 0.04 Mb/s, 0.02 Mb/s ( 40 Kb and 20 Kb, resp.)

So for me in this mobile data cell it has a BIG influence if I allow the Liquid to use 3G networks!

I have freezes too.

I have the 1.100.05 Rom with LCR1.6. Wifi, 2G/3G is deaktivatet.

Yesterday i had round about 6 or 7 freezes. Today already two times.

I don“t know why it freez.

If i'm at home i have no freezes. This is very remarkable.

Sometimes i think that my Smartphone have Hardware failures.

I hope that ther would come a better ROM.

I suspect it is due to a Linux kernel panic.

Can anybody of you look if you have a file called apanic.txt on your SD card?

If not, please check if there is /data/system/apanic.log by pulling it to your PC:

adb pull /data/system/apanic.log <some directory> and look into it if there is any aign of a kernel panic.

My freezes were defenately caused by the 2G/3G switches. Havent had a single freeze since I fixed my phone to 3G!

It's great to hear that we know what causes the problem. But i wouldn't say it's solved, because it is very inconvenient to have manually switching to 2g Mode, if there is no 3g signal available. I really hope we get a rom without this issue soon...

Indeed, "solved" is a bit too enthousiastic. I was just so extatic to find my phone working everytime I switch it on!

Just for the record... I flashed my Liquid to 1.100.05 ROM last week and have not used root mode nor added any custom ROM on top of it. I was gonna use Xian 0.7 but lacked time to get it setup. My Liquid hasn't frozen up on at all ever since! I've used 2G, 3G and WiFi all in the mix and even went abroad and used roaming. No freezes.

Xian release notes mentions some things were optimized, so there may be something in his build that causes the lock ups.

I'll try and update mine to use Xian and see if I do get the freezing again... It may be due stCPU or AutoKiller/AutoMem...? Perhaps they kill something they shouldn't... JM2C

I think I have this problem too.

My phone is randomly locking up while in standby since yesterday, but it also happened when restarting the phone - subsequent to a freeze - and when calling. But I don't have 2.1 since just yesterday, I have it from the time it leaked out. Also, the battery sometimes discharges too fast without reason (I had this since day one).

Now that I read this I have disabled my 3G connection since I don't use it (sky high data rates here.)

The phone seems to wake up faster when I hit the power button.

P.s. I don't have any kernel panic file. Do I need to be rooted to see that thru adb?

I only seem to have this problem when live wallpaper is used. once I turned it off, I never had freeze problem anymore

I use a static wallpaper and don't have any themes or system-affecting apps installed. I only have 10 installed apps.

My phone isn't rooted.

I'm pretty much default :(

BTW, i've got some kernel panic log.

Could anyone find something useful from it?

So you really had a kernel panic which caused your phone to not respond anymore.

Basically, when the kernel panics, it will run some internal housekeeping tasks and then halt the CPU. On a PC you hit the reset button, on an embedded device you likely need to pull the power supply.

What caused the kernel panic? Not really visible from that trace. According to the CPUs program counter, the kernel was about to return from a syscall having some pointer that references some invalid memory address. Great.

Any chance you still know which process was running with PID 7325 at the time of the crash? :o :( :(

To make it clear, if it is really a kernel panic that causes those crashes, it is absolutely irrelevant what programs you run: Live-Wallpapers, Custom-ROMs, Launchers, whatever - they may increase the probability of the phone crashing but they are not the reason for it. The reason is the kernel and/or any of the Liquid's device drivers that run in kernel space.

After more than a week of 3G-only stability with 1.100.05 / LCR 1.6 I'm more than sure that 2G/3G switching is the culprit.
