Guest djtosh Posted May 18, 2010 Report Posted May 18, 2010 Hi, ive recently decided that after 2 years with my omnia, im finally going to migrate over to android and have got myself an HTC desire! Im now gonna give my omnia either to my mum or my girlfriend. Neither of which have any experience with smartphones or touch screen phones. Over my time I have used many different roms with many different home screens. With them both being used to the genereic non-smart mobile phobne gui, I was hoping somebody who has been in a similar situation could recommend a simple gui for omnia that i can use. At the moment titanium 6.5 seems the best but they both find even that complicated. Any and all suggestions would be largely appreciated. thanks
Guest kdkinc Posted May 18, 2010 Report Posted May 18, 2010 I understand what your doing, Its a nice gesture,however..... How many phones do you want to be fixing at a time ?? How much spare time do you have to listen to cries of frustration ??? Sell or give the phone to a more tech type person and buy your Mum or Girlfriend a basic cell phone. This way their happy and you have time to play and learn a new system. best to you :) ;)

I gave him one of my omnias with extremely simplified spb ms ( when I say SIMPLIFIED, I mean it). I removed everything that was possible to remove. Pretty much the only things I left for him were: just one home screen with the clock, missed calls/sms widget and screen lock. He managed to screw it up any way. For a couple of weeks I was a tech support person for him. After that, he gave it back to me.
Guest dimera Posted May 19, 2010 Report Posted May 19, 2010 (edited) IMO Samsung Today 2 and spb weather as pluging will do the job. Edited May 19, 2010 by dimera
Guest silverd Posted May 19, 2010 Report Posted May 19, 2010 If you consist on giving them the phone the most simplified UI I can think is Vito's Winterface or Iphone today. You know, just thumbnails for everything they will want.
Guest Compuse Posted May 19, 2010 Report Posted May 19, 2010 (edited) Seems you don't love your mom and girlfriend, made up who you dislike the most yet? :) And yes, .. the sbp shells will be the best on the eyes and easiest to use! Edited May 19, 2010 by Compuse
Guest amitsharma.atc Posted May 20, 2010 Report Posted May 20, 2010 And yes, .. the sbp shells will be the best on the eyes and easiest to use! +1 spb mobile shell is very easy to use
Guest abanglek Posted May 24, 2010 Report Posted May 24, 2010 m2dv2, simple & easy gui to learn with little bit control, maybe for your gf, not your mother (give her nokia 3210  ).. ock's rom 1 of the best (bug still here & there), bring back samsung dialer & walla, you're ready to go.. & maybe you need to hide some advance configuration shortcut, as your gf will mess the phone..
Guest amitsharma.atc Posted May 24, 2010 Report Posted May 24, 2010 +1 spb mobile shell is very easy to use  new ver. of spb mobile is out now 3.5.4 try it
Guest andrew.mazlim Posted May 24, 2010 Report Posted May 24, 2010 Most easiest (and with great themes too!) to me is M2D! Simply, you scrolling your finger from left to right and rapidly you changing different screens (favorites, sms, email, launcher,... etc). Far better to me...
Guest dgyahn Posted May 24, 2010 Report Posted May 24, 2010 (edited) I'm guessing they will never try to customize what you give them. If that's the case then I would go with M2D. SPB Mobile Shell is great but too easy to mess up if you start to play with the settings and once they screw up the home screen you'll be playing tech support for them. With M2D you get what you get. Just don't include M2DC or any other editor and they should be okay. Samsung Today 2 would be my second choice if they are just using it as a basic phone with text and email. Guest Billus Posted May 24, 2010 Report Posted May 24, 2010 I'd worry about getting a decent keyboard. It is a pain to type on.
Guest WhtCastle Posted May 25, 2010 Report Posted May 25, 2010 I'd worry about getting a decent keyboard. It is a pain to type on. I would have to agree this will be the largest problem more than a main screen. This seems like a large turn-off if you are coming from something from a hardware keyboard. For screens, SPB Mobile would be best I think. The scrolling on the others doesn't seem to be a natural movement for someone new to the touch screens.
