Guest JustSuds Posted May 19, 2010 Report Posted May 19, 2010 If I get a desire imported from the UK, is the hardware *physically* the same as the Desire sold by telstra in Australia? ie, through any amount of rom flashing, will I be able to use Telstra Next G? I know the G1 is Next G incompatible, I have one. But thats a hardware thing. The G1 goes from regular GPRS to 3G, but not NextG. Telstra is selling a Desire that boasts NextG compatibility, will an import be compatible too?

The UK ones are hardwared to 2100/900 mhz, the telstra ones are hardwared to 2100/850mhz.
Guest mooves Posted May 19, 2010 Report Posted May 19, 2010 I asked the same question about 12 hours ago. Maybe we should just swap?! ive got a telstra version running on vodafone. It's just Telstra's way of branding their 3G service. Telstra uses 850Mhz radio frequency for 3G, and thus the G1 doesn't have 3G compatibility (the G1 supports 900/1700/2100, not 850) with Telstra. The UK version supports 900Mhz and 2100Mhz for 3G, no 850Mhz support, so it cannot connect to the 3G network of Telstra. You can't change these things simply by flashing a rom.
Guest Dj DeNiMz Posted May 19, 2010 Report Posted May 19, 2010 any one in Melbourne Australia willing to trade there uk/import htc desire for my Australian next g desire as i am on vodafone and cant use next g pm me :)
Guest mooves Posted May 20, 2010 Report Posted May 20, 2010 I'm using my Telstra Desire on Vodafone using it between Sydney and Newcastle with no issues. Unless you live out in the sticks and your data network is always G then you should swap. If it says 3G / H for most of the time then you should keep it. Vodafone 3G uses 2100Mhz which the Telstra Desire also supports. any one in Melbourne Australia willing to trade there uk/import htc desire for my Australian next g desire as i am on vodafone and cant use next g pm me :)
