Guest fudgeboy Posted May 19, 2010 Report Posted May 19, 2010 Has anyone else got their Desire to work with a non-HTC micro-USB cable? The HTC one that came with the phone works just fine. But I bought a couple of other generic micro-USB cables, and a couple of mini-USB to micro-USB cables, and none of them will let me do anything except charge. Just can't connect to the phone. But that's too weird. Surely HTC haven't got non-standard wiring in their micro-USB socket and a non-standard cable?! Why would they do that? James
Guest VeeDubZ Posted May 19, 2010 Report Posted May 19, 2010 im using the one i had for my blackberry fine
Guest speedking34 Posted May 19, 2010 Report Posted May 19, 2010 I had the exact same problem with the HTC hero and mini usb cables, only the HTC cable worked for data transfer. I am yet to try generic cable for the desire
Guest Jelle B Posted May 19, 2010 Report Posted May 19, 2010 you just need a usb cable which uses all pins. i bet the one you try to use, uses less :-)
Guest atconc Posted May 19, 2010 Report Posted May 19, 2010 I got a few from ebay and they mostly work fine
Guest afiorillo Posted May 19, 2010 Report Posted May 19, 2010 (edited) At work I left a Nokia 3600 data cable(*) for connecting my Desire to the PC and it works just fine. Also, a bunch of Brando's cables and adapters work well. (*) Thinking about it, I actually rooted my Desire with that Nokia cable... Edited May 19, 2010 by afiorillo
Guest ciairo Posted May 19, 2010 Report Posted May 19, 2010 An unbranded retractable cable works fine for me
Guest dancedreamfly Posted May 20, 2010 Report Posted May 20, 2010 My Nokia and Motorola cables work fine.
Guest fudgeboy Posted May 20, 2010 Report Posted May 20, 2010 Weird. Thanks all. I'll try a bit more ebaying, then. Bit annoying that it's not till you've stumped up the cash that you find out whether it works or not. The ones I bought previously were from Hong Kong. I'll try buying a UK one. Maybe USB traffic drives on the other side of the cable in Hong Kong... James
Guest pina Posted May 20, 2010 Report Posted May 20, 2010 many cheap micro usb cables can only be used for charging, but the more expensive ones can be used for data too. you have to read the product description. I bought 4 retractable micro-usb cables on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...e=STRK:MEWNX:IT works perfect and fast delivery
