Homescreen Widgets from HTML. Is it possible ?

Hi, I'm a designer from Romania and I happen to know a good deal of XHTML + CSS + Javascript.

I was wondering if and how it would be possible for me to create some cool homescreen widgets.

If it's not possible with html, I'm looking for a java developer that cand help me out. I have some ideas.

The obvious solution would be to embed a WebView component within a home screen widget but I've seen a few newsgroup posts that say this isn't possible, at least on stock home screens.
