Guest squirreleater Posted May 20, 2010 Report Posted May 20, 2010 Well, at Googles IO2010 conference, they officially announced the latest firmware update 2.2, otherwise known as 'Froyo' I'll just give a quick rundown of the features, early days (well hours in fact,it was only about 6 hours ago) so the details are still coming out- feel free to add to the thread. Full Flash support. 2 - 5 times faster CPU performance. 2 - 3 times faster web browsing. Apps saved to SD card. Use your phone as a WiFi hotspot. Updated Android market, update all apps with one click or auto update. Apps can utilize Android Cloud to Device Messaging to enable mobile alert, send to phone, and two-way push sync functionality Microsoft Exchange support. Older devices should be ok to run 2.2 as well ( Information still trickling out) Should be out within 2 weeks- probably much sooner! ( Watch this very forum! )

Guest dave lim Posted May 21, 2010 Report Posted May 21, 2010 I cannot wait too... does it support HTC Legend? Any free upgrades from HTC, or Paul will bake it for Legend?
Guest squirreleater Posted May 21, 2010 Report Posted May 21, 2010 I cannot wait too... does it support HTC Legend? Any free upgrades from HTC, or Paul will bake it for Legend? Apparently all recent phones plus a fair few of the older ones will be able to run 2.2. Certainly the legend will. Only issue will be how long HTC take to officially bring it out ( Think Hero and 2.1 !!!) I'm sure Paul will work his magic though.
Guest doug0365 Posted May 21, 2010 Report Posted May 21, 2010 Would you happen to test out if this new update improves/fixes the issues that people have with the touch screen? I recently bought the nexus one and my only gripe with the phone so far is how wacky the screen gets.

I recently bought the nexus one and my only gripe with the phone so far is how wacky the screen gets. No idea if the screen would have any improvements? There may be something done, I guess it'll just be a case of try it and see, I will post if I notice a change, although I really have issues with the soft buttons actually being slightly above where they should be!
Guest Webreaper Posted May 24, 2010 Report Posted May 24, 2010 Installed it on my Nexus on Saturday. It's very cool. Differences I've noted (so far): Speed - it's blazing fast Keyboard - much smarter and works better Market - auto-updates, and bulk updates too. Gmail - multiple email accounts, coloured labels New home screen buttons make space for 2 new icons (since phone/browser are there already) Screenlock has password and PIN options too now Camera app much better Auto-rotate on landscape works in either direction (i.e., left-handed mode) Wifi hotspot and tethering is neat Downsides: I've found is that when I plug my device in to a USB port to charge on my work PC, I now get a full-screen prompt asking if I want to mount the SD card. Which I don't. But there's no way to stop it doing it. Anyone found an option? Currently CoPilot is broken. Presumably they'll fix it soon. Although the install-app-to-SD option is available, no apps seem to use it yet. I hope Flash 10.1 (12MB) and Google Earth (22MB) turn this option on soon to free up some memory.
