HTC Desire to be one of the first with Froyo!

Now that Froyo has gone official, HTC has hurried to reassure customers that most of its 2010 phone catalog will indeed be riding Android 2.2 before the year is through. Prodded on the subject by Pocket-lint, the company has replied that

it's starting out with the Desire and Incredible and working through other "hotly anticipated new phones," which should sound a reassuring note for prospective Evo 4G owners.

Most of the phone catalog will receive Android 2.2 before the end of the year. Desire and Incredible will be the first ones, so they will get it before the end of the year. Sorry for my bad English.

Yeah. With HTC, there's no telling when the update will actually make it to devices. My friend's got a Hero on 1.5. Android 2.0 was promised to them in like December or something. Then they said 2.1 would be the more logical update. It's almost the end of May now (6 months since they announced an update) and no updates yet. I won't hold my breath waiting on HTC to deliver 2.2 to my Desire any time soon. If Google didn't screw Australia by only selling Nexus One in US, Singapore and some other countries, I'd have gotten the Nexus One. Importing it meant it would cost 150 bucks more than the Desire did.

Sense UI is awesome and all, but I hate how HTC complicated the rooting process and how long they make their customers wait for updates. It's so easy with the Nexus One even though it was HTC that manufactured it.

I do hope that you guys get it soon.... it would be great for both of us. You guys would be able to enjoy the yogurty goodness and we could also get a sense update for 2.2. I've only been on 2.2 for just over an hour and I'm NOT going back.... though I do miss my sense ui. :rolleyes:

Ah! I see I see. From what I've been reading on Android sites and comments there, 2.2 is apparently really awesome. HTC won't provide this update till end of the year (if that). I'm currently reading on rooting my Desire. Baked a custom ROM too. Hehe. Just waiting for my phone to fully recharge and then I'm gonna take the plunge. Been putting off rooting till now but the 2.2 update makes me hope that if I have a rooted device and if Paul figures a way to give it to Desire users, I want to be ready for it.
