Slow SMS

Ever since I've put on the 1.100.05 Android 2.1 rom, the SMS application has been extremely slow in loading SMSs.

A solution was mentioned on these forums where I should not restore my old SMSs because of some DB issues which may slow down the SMS loading

I have backed up and deleted all my SMSs from the internal memory, and for a while the SMS app load fast like it did in the older beta roms

but now I have about 50 SMSs and the SMS app is starting to take ages to load again

So my question is, has anyone found a fix for this problem? Which rom has a fix for this problem? If a rom has a fix, can I extract only the fix, I dont want to wipe my phone...

It's a general problem in all 2.1bin and cooked roms...

and i've look into the sql data.. the basic data structure are the same in 1.6and2.1..

so it's not the backup&restore act that makes it slow...

btw using handcent sms will spped it up a little bit

I'm using handcent and with 252 sms it's taking ages to load... Only real option is to delete the sms when they reach an unbearable amount

Has anybody had a problem with Handcent where the text would be from somebody but the notification would say that it is from somebody else?

To me, it looks like the problem is not related to sms number itself, but to number of contacts sms come from.. I can keep 100 sms of a single contact with no lag, or have less than 100 sms from 10 contacts and experience some lag..

Can you confirm this?

If it's database related maybe we can try to find some wrong indexing..

I'm investigating a bit, and looking into db files using sqlite3 from shell. Though I'd like to have an extended debug output about what kind of queries are made on db. Is there anyone who knows how to get it?

I dont have a large number of SMSs from one person, just backed up and cleared mine

i normally get sms from around 5-10 people, about 3-10 each and it starts lagging

I'm having the same problem. I have SMSs from 24 people, the highest with ~200 but the rest between 1 and ~50. It was quick with 1.6 but having installed Acer_LiquidE_1.100.05_EMEA it's not pretty slow.

I was going to install Liquid Community Rom as it is apparently faster than the stock 2.1 rom - has anyone had any success with that?

It's a pain in the a$$ and sure it is killing me...

I am using the 2.1 stock rom with Xian 0.7a

Using Handcent as the SMS client, it takes ages to load up... :(

When I am using the phone and a SMS comes in, the phone will act like dead and is not responsive for like 10 seconds.

can't we try with Cyanogen or others AOSP roms to read sms?

I noticed this too. Then i noticed it has to do something with the app killer tool that i use. When i load the messaging app, two apps open messaging and settings :S . I'm using Task Manager. So i added both of them to the ignore list. Now it takes less than 2 seconds to load.

Enjoying my acer other than that. I think its a steal at the price for the specs inside. I'm using the stock 2.1 that came with it. And its a liquid E.
