Guest EMGenius Posted April 6, 2003 Report Posted April 6, 2003 I have just got an SPV and found that I can turn any of my 3000 odd mp3s into ringtones for it  (there goes my dissertation work then!! ), the only problem is that I can only seem to install the tones onto the phone and not the card: This is taking up loads of room on the phone and slowing it down, is there any way that I can put the ringtones (ie, the wav files) onto the sd card rather than the phone :?: Oh, and while I'm at it, I was going to buy a new SD card but was wondering is there really a difference in the performance with the SD cards and the multimedia cards? Oh, and another question - (may as well get them all out at once hey  ?!!!); if I get a bigger card and start using the phone as an mp3 player will the battery last longer than 5 mins? cheers for your help and sorry for the multiple questions! Guest martin Posted April 6, 2003 Report Posted April 6, 2003 You can use the regitry editor to allocate filenames to sound value in Control Panel/Sounds. SD cards (see previous SD/MMC topic) http://www.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=28120 Not sure about the MP3 question although I can imagine battery life is good. The screen is the battery eater.
Guest EMGenius Posted April 6, 2003 Report Posted April 6, 2003 thanks Martin, Once I get the reg editor what string(s) do i edit, I am not too good with reg editors, have had some dodgy experience with regedit in windows!! thanks for directing me to the interesting post on SD card, think i will be staying away from MMC's then!! If the screen is the main battery guzzler do i need to have the screen saver set to turn the screen off; will this make significant difference? Thanks again
Guest Vector Posted April 6, 2003 Report Posted April 6, 2003 Follow this guide... http://www.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=7695 It's the one under sound tweaks called "Ringtones on SD/MMC Card"
Guest Vector Posted April 6, 2003 Report Posted April 6, 2003 And to put the screen saver on goto Programs-->settings-->Power Management-->then set the screen saver mode to "turn off"
Guest EMGenius Posted April 6, 2003 Report Posted April 6, 2003 cheers davidrm, can you believe i have looked through that about 3 times and missed it every time!! I did a seacrh for SD card and ringtone and got nothing aswel, ah well, ne' mind!! does the screen off thing really make that much difference?
Guest Vector Posted April 6, 2003 Report Posted April 6, 2003 Yep, it made a BIG difference with me
Guest yatpeak Posted April 12, 2003 Report Posted April 12, 2003 I reckon it's great. I couldn't figure out how to turn the screensaver on at first, because the option that turns it on is labeled turn off  ! But now that I use it, it really saves power. Wyatt
