Recovery question

Hi,

Im a Hero user since October last year.

Now i will buy a desire and i have a question:

on hero i use Custom recovery(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=561124)

is something similar aviable for Desire?

and a second question:

Ive heard something with briking the desire when some people flashes their phones, what is meant?
