Confused about manual install Froyo

How does this Froyo (manual install) compare to the update Google will officially roll out for Froyo? Is it better to wait for the official OTA update from Google or just do it manually now? And will I still get the official OTA update to Froyo once I manual install now?

Sorry for asking such a noob question... XP

If your device is not rooted, you can manually flash the official update.

You can also wait for OTA, which will give you the same update.

Once updated, you wont get OTA as there is nothing to update, excluding 2.2 update1 if any :rolleyes:

If you update manually, then you'll already have the update installed so the OTA won't do anything whatsoever. Google will recognise you as already having 2.2 so even if you flash your phone back to stock I wouldn't hold out much hope of them pushing the OTA out to you. If your phone is still stock and you'd like to keep it that way, then just wait and you'll get the OTA eventually. The only way you'd even have a hope of getting the OTA is by flashing a stock original ROM back to the phone and crossing your fingers.

Just flash Paul's pre-rooted ROM, it's exactly the same as you'd get with the OTA with the added bonus of having root access.

Google are already rolling out the OTA anyway, it's how people managed to get their hands on it in the first place.

Oh ok, so this update for download is basically the final product which Google officially is releasing right now? (albeit at a slow rate :D )

@Stevenz

I'm currently running on stock and unrooted; so it's better to wait for the OTA then???

What is "better" is up to you.

Do you want to update your device manually "because you can" (same goes for unlocking, rooting and custom ROMS) - or are you happy with what you have and are also happy to wait for the OTA update.
