Guest ksc6000 Posted May 24, 2010 Report Posted May 24, 2010 (edited) I was reading the alpha r22 thread on xda and someone said that it won't be possible for Paul to use froyo capabilities (flash and such) and make a desire port. I guess that makes sense now that I think about it, but that just sucks  Anybody know anything different? Paul? On Paul's twitter as he was uploading his update.zip of Froyo, he wrote "ETA for update zip 20 minutes... kitchen, Desire port etc. to follow next week."...I hope that means what I think it means...but I don't wanna get my hopes up. Guest th0r615 Posted May 24, 2010 Report Posted May 24, 2010 HTC said 2.2 was coming to the Desire. Once it does I'm sure Paul will be able to make a Nexus port with 2.2 and Sense.

Yeah, basically meaning a Kitchen for the Froyo update.zip... not for the Desire port. As the previous poster said, Desire port with 2.2 will probably come when HTC releases it, heck the new kernel source hasn't even been included in a Desire port ROM yet, Paul is still working on that, I doubt that means a 2.2+Sense is right around the corner! sms
Guest Scott Ricketts Posted May 25, 2010 Report Posted May 25, 2010 I read on XDA someone from HTC (and we know how reliable someone is) said that Desire's 2.2 ROM will drop end of June.
Guest JonnyRockets Posted May 25, 2010 Report Posted May 25, 2010 (edited) I read on XDA someone from HTC (and we know how reliable someone is) said that Desire's 2.2 ROM will drop end of June. Incorrect. It's second half of the year, most likely some time in Q4. http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/21/htc-mos...et-android-2-2/ Edited May 25, 2010 by JonnyRockets
Guest JonnyRockets Posted May 25, 2010 Report Posted May 25, 2010 Also I'm pretty sure it's 10000000% impossible for Paul to create a Desire 2.2 build without any new code from HTC.
Guest stevenz Posted May 25, 2010 Report Posted May 25, 2010 Of course it's possible, it's just a matter of if and when it gets done. Ideally it'd probably need a Desire 2.2 release to get things 100% (or as near as) which isn't going to happen any time soon, but once the full FroYo source drops I'd imagine that a Sense port to FroYo won't be far behind.
Guest Nanu*1 Posted May 25, 2010 Report Posted May 25, 2010 I heard that 2.1 would come to the Hero in March, little did I know that HTC meant March 2011....... :-)
Guest Jompet Posted May 25, 2010 Report Posted May 25, 2010 Link Rumor: Froyo Android 2.2 coming to the HTC Desire as early as June 23rd.
Guest bedwa Posted May 25, 2010 Report Posted May 25, 2010 Nice rumor jompet! Speaking as a customer service rep for another company, hopefully that one wasn't recorded.... :D Hopefully it comes as scheduled......
Guest Scott Ricketts Posted May 25, 2010 Report Posted May 25, 2010 Unless the final build of Froyo is better than the preview release, I'll be waiting for the Desire release. I do love me some Sense.
Guest tasty Posted May 26, 2010 Report Posted May 26, 2010 Unless the final build of Froyo is better than the preview release, I'll be waiting for the Desire release. I do love me some Sense. There are some bugs as noted in the "this isn't the shipping rom" note, but I wouldn't expect much to change as far as user interface. What would you expect to change?
Guest Scott Ricketts Posted May 26, 2010 Report Posted May 26, 2010 The Facebook / Twitter integration is heads and shoulders above the stock Android experience. That alone is worth the price of admission for me.
Guest Deathwish238 Posted May 27, 2010 Report Posted May 27, 2010 (edited) It should be completely possible for Paul to take the Desire ROM and add elements of 2.2 to it. Unless the final build of Froyo is better than the preview release, I'll be waiting for the Desire release. I do love me some Sense. SenseUI is pretty, but it offers little else over FroYo. Of course I'ld take SenseUI+FroYo... Using FroYo these past few days has been pretty fun. Keep finding little changes. Like the new way to access symbols in the stock keyboard. Guest JonnyRockets Posted May 27, 2010 Report Posted May 27, 2010 It should be completely possible for Paul to take the Desire ROM and add elements of 2.2 to it. It's been already impossible for him so far to create a 2.1 build based off the kernel source code. What makes you think he'd be able to do a 2.2.?

What makes you think he'd be able to do a 2.2.? Goddamn badword trolls. The kernel has been out for what, 2 weeks? And in that time Paul has rooted a couple of new phones, tinkered with 2.2, updated a tiny bit the DEsire port, and am sure has been poking at the kernel source to understand it and working on integrating it.. In addition to running a business, having a family, and I'm guessing a life outside of all of this. People these days. You guys make me hate the Internet! sns
