According to 3 Sweden (the only telecompany in Sweden who are selling U8220) there will be no 2.1 update.

If this is true or just some dull way to make us buy another phone I cannot tell.

"Huawei meddelar nu att det inte blir någon uppgradering. det här är den förklaring vi fått:

Huawei har efter närmare undersökningar kommit fram till att det inte kommer att gå att uppgradera U8220 till Android 2.1. Anledningen är att det inte finns tillräckligt internt minne och därmed kommer telefonen inte fungera som den ska vid uppgradering."

Som ni förstår beklagar vi detta lika mycket som ni gör."

Translation:

"Huawei is telling us that there won't be an upgrade. this is the explanation that we've got:

Huawei has after further investigation come to the conclusion that it won't be possible to upgrade 8220 to Android 2.1. The reason is that there isn't enough internal memory and therefore the phone won't work like it should if upgraded.

As you understand we're as sorry about this as you are."

(Any person from Sweden might make suggestions to improving the translation )

My guess is that they're just taking this information from Huawei Support-forums from the thread "[New Information] About Android 2.1 of Huawei U8220& U8230" but I don't know.

Also, is it true that Android 2.2 takes up less internal memory and that that upgrade would be possible?

although i am impressed of the price=performance on the pulse and the 2.1 beta seems ok, i must say that huawei is making a VERY poor job of porting 2.1 to their handset, WAKE UP HUAWEI!!! poor programmers godamnit

HUAWEI is just messing with us.

To me it seems like they have bunch of guys bored of playing Tetris/solitaire who every now and then upload old updates and delete few days later and then post a message on their forum and then take it off-air...Now that's what I call as spending time wisely :D

If I'd known months ago that all this was going to happen I'd have just bought a Nexus or something from a company with a track record of being able to supply updates (and tell people what's going on.)

(Okay, currently that's only Google, but the HTC phones seem to have large mod / hacking communities, and more is understood about how their phones work.)

I'm just guessing but maybe these updates not update the Android OS itself (remain 1.5), but update the firmware of the device.

So do something like the Chinese 1.5 update do, for enable the vibration for 2.1 update.

(Moreover if my guessing is true, in that case this is the premonitory signs of the upcoming 2.1 upgrade...)
