Unlocking Pulse to move to O2 *NEW QUESTION, LAST POST*

Other than getting T-Mobile to unlock my phone for £15, is there anything else I need to take into account? I only ask this because I read an email someone got from T-Mobile on another forum and it said, "It may be that not all of your phone's features will work on another network and you'll need to check that your phone is compatible with the network you're planning to use it on. Sometimes you'll also need a working SIM card to unlock it. (Though you won't need one on a Sony Ericsson phone.)"

So I was wondering if there was anymore to it than that? Has anyone else moved from T-Mobile to another company? And it can be done if you're on Pay as you Go, right?

ps. I feel bad for all the threads I make with questions. I suggest a general questions thread to be created and stickied. :rolleyes:

A large number of people on this forum have successfully unlocked their phone, many using the contact in the following thread http://android.modaco.com/content/t-mobile...for-s19-99-p14/ Personally, I'm on O2 Pay and Go after getting from an unlock code from the link just given. Depending on which ROM you're using you may find you need to edit the APN details in the phone in order to pick up an O2 data signal and receive MMS messages, this information can be found on the Pulse wiki page which is also one of the stickied threads at the top of the forum.

There are issues with MMS on Vodafone, but there's a fix mentioned in the thread on here.

Ah, I did see that website, but it would work out around £14 for me, only £1 less from something completely official. I just wasn't sure what it was like from that website, but I guess it must be good for it to be stickied. Is it just paying over credit card? Ah, APN details? I guess I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. Thanks for recommending, I may try that.

Good job I'm going to O2 then. :rolleyes:

I purchased a smartsim from Dealextreme for £3 which just fits under the Simcard.

It saved me a tenner, plus if the phone becomes faulty it can be easily removed and reused

http://android.modaco.com/index.php?act=at...st&id=46694 (voadphone,contract?)

<apn carrier="Vodafone Hidden UK MMS" mcc="234" mnc="30" apn="wap.vodafone.co.uk" user="wap" password="wap" mmsc="http://mms.vodafone.co.uk/servlets/mms" mmsproxy="212.183.137.012" mmsport="8799" />

http://android.modaco.com/index.php?act=at...st&id=46768 (orange)

<apn carrier="Orange Hidden UK MMS" mcc="234" mnc="30" apn="orangemms" user="Orange" password="Multimedia" mmsc="http://mms.orange.co.uk/" mmsproxy="192.168.224.010" mmsport="8080" />

http://android.modaco.com/index.php?act=at...st&id=46792 (O2 payg)

<apn carrier="o2 Hidden UK MMS PAYG" apn="payandgo.o2.co.uk" user="vertigo" password="password" mmsc="http://mmsc.mms.o2.co.uk" mmsproxy="193.113.200.195" port="8080" mcc="234" mnc="30" />

http://android.modaco.com/index.php?act=at...st&id=46357 (o2 contract)

<apn carrier="o2 Hidden MMS" mcc="234" mnc="30" apn="wap.o2.co.uk" proxy="193.113.200.195" port="8080" user="o2wap" password="password" mmsc="http://mmsc.mms.o2.co.uk:8002" mmsproxy="193.113.200.195" mmsport="8080"/>

If you save the relevant .xml file to C:\ then

adb remount

adb push C:\apns-conf.xml /system/etc/

Then on your phone go to settings and Wireless & Networks (this might not be exact on your version of Android) then press mobile networks and then press Access Point Names, press menu and press reset to default. You then just need to select o2 UK MMS PAYG which will hopefully appear.

Okay, I bought an unlock code from the link provided in the first reply. I got the unlock code the next day, very pleased with that.

So all I do is put my new SIM card in, turn it on and it should ask for my unlock code? And then I just enter it and bam. Done?

m'bad for the double post, I'm just quite worried about this.

I unlocked it. Worked a charm! Just trying to figure out how to get it sorted to send texts or whatever. Since I'm on Vanilla, I just have to change the APN settings to the ones on the wiki, and then I'm sorted, yes? Then top-up and it's all cool?

Got my Pulse unlocked like you and was using an O2 PAYG sim, have now switched to an O2 simplicity sim. Sooooooo, yes it does work, you just need to enter the APN settings from the WIKI to get your data (3G) up n running, ensure you enter the PAYG ones tho... :rolleyes:

I have the G icon next to my signal in the notification bar at the top, so that means my data (3G) is up and running, right? So I just need to top up so that it makes my SIM allowed to send/receive calls and texts?

G is GPRS

E is Edge

3G is....3G

Yes, putting credit onto your PAYG sim will enable you to send/receive txts and make phone calls.... Also depending on what SIM plan you are on you might get free Internet, otherwise you will need to buy the web bolt on....See O2's site for details. :rolleyes:

Yay. Thanks for the help, it's worked.

Is there a way to turn 3G off, by the way? Because I checked the use 2G networks box in the settings, but I can still access the Facebook app etc. so does that not count as using 3G and I can still do it without it draining my credit?

data is data...doesn't matter if you use 2G or 3G or EDGE or GPRS...it will all drain your credit.

3G will download your facebook updates quicker than Edge or Gprs.......
