HTC desire random lockup

My desire will randomly (seemingly!) lockup . It is doing this once or twice a day.

When it locks:

  • The screen freezes
  • Unresponsive to any button presses
  • Upon removal of USB the charging light stays lit.

Removal and reinsertion of the battery will lead to a restart. Also if I plug in USB cable after about a minute it will restart. when running it seems fine.

I first noticed this problem with the R3 kitchen rom but have tried applying R2 with and without extensions, with and without A2SD in any form ... am back on stock firmware () and problem still persists.

I'm unable to detect any pattern in lockup relating to

    • Time of day
    • Particular applications
    • Connected or not to USB
    • Features active (usb/wifi/bt)
    • Temp - wondered if it was overheating

Anyone else seen this sort of behaviour?

I had a mind to try and log what was running at the time of the crash, perhaps like the LogCat screen in the Eclipse plugin (but this only works when I'm tethered) writing to a log file on SD card. Any suggestions as to how to best achieve this if at all possible?

This is my second Desire (First one got insurance replaced due to impact damage to screen (shattered when I dropped it) and had I had no problems with that one thus ... I'm thinking it might be a bad m'board or somesuch on this unit ... problem is that it's a UK vodafone and I cannot find a copy of their firmware to burn it back to get it replaced "under warranty" ... is there somewhere I can get hold of a UK vodafone firmware?

    Cheers,

    Andrew

Hi, it looks like I've the same issue.

I tried differents ROM like LeeDroid or MoDaCo r9 but i still have a kind of random freeze of my Desire.

So if you found anything to fix it, I'm interested in !

Anyway, did you look here for your Vodafone ROM ? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695667

Good luck and sorry for my bad english, I'm french...

Ouch.... sorry to read this. I seem to have the same issue!!

Seems though that my SD card is kind of corrupted. Second time that the SD-EXT part was corrupted and

SD card mounted only in Read Only format. I kind of hope this is the cause.

Just bought a new SD card and am now putting it in place (pain in the neck process in itself as I use A2SD+

and as such I cannot recover from nandroid backup (since the partitions are not yet in place).

I am VERY curious if (a) anybody else has the same freeze-up issues and (b ) if they also run into SD card problems.

please reply!

So you think that this issue might come from the part table of the card or something like that ?

I also have a EXT part to A2SD+ that I created with clockworkmod recovery (I think) and I'll try to properly part it with Partition Magic directly from the PC.

Will you tell me if the new card resolve this issue please ?
