Problems with custom recovery image

Hello,

I am having problems with the custom recovery image, as for most things i try to do it says "error run x via adb".

I have tried downloading the recovery image again and re-flashing it but it still wont work.

I have no experience of using adb (i have tried and failed) and from what i understand it only works when the phone is running android properly.

This leads to problems as it means that whilst i can do nandroid backups and flash roms, i cannot restore the backup or wipe properly so if i flash a rom and it goes wrong or i want to revert back to my backup for what ever reason, I cant (effectively i cannot safely install custom ROMs)

Having tried to edit a ROM recently i cannot test it as i cannot go back.

Please can someone help me and give me directions on how to fix this.

Thanx

Aaron

insert an sd card in the phone

I already have the SD that came with it in the phone. Could the problem be its full up then?

Thanx

Where are you trying to run adb? If you're running it in a normal boot you need to turn on debugging.

I didnt want to do ADB it told me to so i had a go (using terminal in ubuntu) but I dont know how to make it work (i cant get it to recognise devices) and as far as i know it only works when the phone it fully running so if i screwed it up whilst trying to flash a rom for example, i wouldnt be able to restore a backup. In the recovery mode it still doesnt work even with USB debugging on...
