Guest 325i Posted May 25, 2010 Report Posted May 25, 2010 I have root my desire and installed the r1 rom, Question is, by changing the roms to when newer ones are available, is there a possibility of bricking the phone? I done some reseaching and i thought the risk is only when rooting it but changing roms is safe. Is this correct?

At the moment no one found out what is a reason of that. You can brick your phone either rooting it or flashing new room. No general rule.
Guest zaphod0 Posted May 25, 2010 Report Posted May 25, 2010 Until yesterday, I thought that if your first time entering recovery mode / flashing a ROM was successful, then all subsequent attempts would be the same. Flashed my phone about 10 times with no problems but now that I know the truth I won't be so quick to flash unless there is a major stable release. The idea of flashing a ROM, having some major issues and not being able to flash again would be my worst nightmare!

Guest dreamdealer Posted May 25, 2010 Report Posted May 25, 2010 (edited) This has scared me into selling my desire and buying a N1 what ever you think is best, I thought about it my self. I personally not changed the rooted stock rom and the first apps2sd the re-release with davik cache to SD that came out when the root process has not that long since been available main reason I only rooted was because of apps2sd so for now i am happy to sit tight in the hope that 2.2 gets released officially for the desire and wont be making any changes now till if or when 2.2 comes out or a USB issue fix becomes available, which in my non professional and honest opinion is probably to do with power output of some USB ports which other people have stated. So to cut long story short I am going to stick it out for now my desire was on a 12 month contract so 9 months to go so i see what's what nearer to the time. The only thing that really bothers me is when all the people i recommended the desire or legend too find out they have little amount of storage space for now though I be telling them to get the N1. Guest scotch whisky Posted May 25, 2010 Report Posted May 25, 2010 There is a risk of "USB bricking" every time you enter recovery mode. No guaranteed safe way yet. Proceed at your own risk.

Guest Shawe Posted May 26, 2010 Report Posted May 26, 2010 Wenn I update Froyo from HTC (original) is no risk for brick USB?? Probably not, in this case you don't use a custom recovery that probably is partially working.
