Guest phillevy Posted May 28, 2010 Report Posted May 28, 2010 My son has a new Desire that is not yet rooted on Virgin UK - it has been working fine for 3 weeks but suddenly yesterday it completely stopped sending/receiving calls or texts. It is showing a good signal connected to the network. I've tried all the obvious things rebooting, flight mode on and off, re-selecting network etc but to no avail. I would do a full reset but I honestly don't think that will make any difference to such a deep rooted problem. Does anyone have any other suggestions as to what I can try?
Guest EddyOS Posted May 28, 2010 Report Posted May 28, 2010 First thing is to call Virgin and see if anything's going on their end - maybe a block of some description. Failing that a reset might be all you can do before getting it replaced

I'm so reluctant to do a reset as I'm convinced it won't help and my son doesn't yet have the luxury of nandroid or Titanium to make it easy. If it was my Hero I would try a reflash of the radio - I'm sure this is what is the culprit. Edited May 28, 2010 by phillevy
Guest EddyOS Posted May 28, 2010 Report Posted May 28, 2010 How much has he put on the device? I never backup, prefer to reset and do it all from scratch if I ever have to...then you know it works!

I have no problem with a reset, but in this case can't see it will help. That's why I hoped there would be some other suggestions for me to try first that i hadn't thought of.
Guest EddyOS Posted May 28, 2010 Report Posted May 28, 2010 (edited) Yeah, fair enough!! I can't think of anything else, first thing I do once calling the network is a hard reset and it usually works!! It could be down to anything, maybe even an app off the Market. I have all my apps backed up (the ONLY backing up I do) on the SD card so I can just add them back on as opposed to download them all again - or bake them into a ROM in the first place so a hard reset still has said apps on it Edited May 28, 2010 by EddyOS

Guest xTc is loVe Posted May 28, 2010 Report Posted May 28, 2010 Excuse my ignorance but how do you do a hard reset on a non-rooted phone - do you just go into settings or is there another way? Start your phone while holding back + power. Wait for the "fastboot" screen and press power again. Wait a few seconds while it search for updates on the sdcard. Then navigate with power down to clear storage / factory reset ( or so ) Accept with power button reaccept with volume up ( i think) Sry for my english hope u understand me :(
