Problem with A2SD and Modaco 3.2 on Hero

Hi,

I just did a fresh install of Modaco 3.2 on my Hero cell phone.

I partitionned the SD card as follows (through the recovery)

swap= 0

EXT2 = 512MB

Then I switched EXT2 to EXT3

Despite all this, I'm not sure my apps are being installed on the SD card.

So here are my (noobs) questions :

1) Do I need to do anything more to have the apps installed on the SD card (or should it be done automatically as soon as I have an EXT3 partition)?

2) When checking on Linda in the Apps section memory, the memory grows every time I add new apps and the max possible memory is shown to be 165M (not 512 which would be the size of my EXT3 partition)

That is why I have doubts that my Apps are being installed on the SD card...

3) Is there an easy way to check where my apps are being installed (phone memory or EXT3 on SD card)

4) I have installed Droid Explorer on my PC. I have read somewhere that Droid Explorer should be able to show me where my apps are installed (and to check whether they are effectively in the EXT3 partition). But I couldn't find out how to use Droid Explorer in order to find out where are the Apps. Any help would be great here.

5) In case my fears are confirmed and the Apps are stored on my Hero internal memory, then what should I do to solve my problem?

Thanks in advance for your help

I'm really a noobs :(

OK, I just had the idea to remove the sd card from the phone and relaunch the phone without it... and my downloaded apps are no more available.

So now I'm 100% sure they are stored in the sdcard, which answers my questions 1, 3 and 5

BUT, I still don't understand why the internal memory of the phone fills up everytime I add new apps... Does that mean there is still a limit to the number of apps that can be installed in the phone (limit set by the size of the memory phone) ?

Then what is the purpose of A2SD?

I'm all confused there :(

Also, I notice that after removing then putting back the SD card, all my apps are buggy: they don't run anymore and I have to force close them. I need to go through the tedious process of restoring them with titanium backup. Is this a normal issue after moving off and back the sd card (while the phone was off) ?

You're meant to partition in this order

  1. fat32
  2. ext2
  3. swap

If they aren't in that order then things wont work properly. See this guide: http://androidandme.com/2009/08/news/how-t...ndroid-apps2sd/

And to answer your question about taking the memory card out, yes, you will break your apps if you start the phone up without the MC.
