Video calling with Fring

Hi,

Fring has implemented video calling in its latest version. However it doesn't work on the pulse.

Video calling is disabled by default. Anybody got it working on the pulse yet ?

Even Pulse has front camera I never find ed a way to make it work (video calling)...I'm using Nimbuzz

i just installed the the original HU 2.1 ROM

and the video calling does work fine for me

videocalling is only supported by skype and the fring account i think

Yeh this works for me too, using skype, but only if I use back camera.

because there isnt any function that lets you use the front camera

agreed. I did try some voip software a while ago which allowed switching to the front camera.

yes and no.. Mainly no

There is an officail voip client called google voice. But it only works in the USA at the moment.

But im sure we'll get it eventually :)

The front camera hardware definitely works for video and stills, as the builit in camera app supports it (in the 2.1 ROMs, just press meu and select secondary camera. In 1.5 it may be hidden in a menu somewhere, but definitely works.)

I don't know if android supports multiple cameras through a standard system, or if it's custom to each phone. Either way it should be a simple fix for fring if it's reported as a bug. They may need multiple code paths to support switching cameras on different devices, but as of now, there can't be that many around with front cameras anyway.

I haven't used fring yet though...
