Guest kav Posted May 31, 2010 Report Posted May 31, 2010 I have been reading the specs of the desire almost everywhere, and finally decided to jump from WinMo to Android. Have been using WinMo for almost 5 years now, and almost everyone who made the jump say that they wil never go back. Anyways, my questuion is about the resolution of recorded video on the Desire. Is it really 720p or I got wrong specs on that? Also read that it is not HD video recording, but with the update of froyo, it will enable the 720p video uptake and compression on the Desire. So what is the real deal? People who own a Desire, could u be kind to answer this for me, once and for all. The other thing is that I wanted to compare my current fone with the desire and see how much faster and more responsive it is. I own an ETEN G500+ and bought an Omnia and the difference in speed and operation smoothness was noticeable of course, but not that drastic as expected,( probably due to the processor ETEN 528Mhz and Omnia 624Mhz ). What i would like to know if anyone who currently owns a Desire, owned an Omnia before and how does it compare with it? ( If they can be compared at all :( ) I have tried to look for comparisons on the internet but most of them are between the iPhone, HTC HD2, HTC Legend,Nexus One and the Desire. I understand that they are different OS and the Desire has a better performing processor, larger RAM etc, but when it comes to details , how much better and smoother is the Desire? Is the difference really drastic or just noticeable? Thnx.
Guest afiorillo Posted May 31, 2010 Report Posted May 31, 2010 The Desire doesn't shoot 720p videos and won't do it in the near future. FroYo leaks can't help finding out since movie capture is still broken as we speak. The overall smoothness of Android (with or without Sense, it doesn't matter) gives a feeling of improved speed over WiMo much more than in reality, but who cares? it's a smooth and nice user experience what we want. :(
Guest hally83 Posted May 31, 2010 Report Posted May 31, 2010 i'd go for one with a snapdragon personally (nexus one, desire etc.) over say, the legend. The legend is a mildly updated Hero, but I went from Hero to Desire and the processor makes all the difference.
Guest RiotRick Posted May 31, 2010 Report Posted May 31, 2010 If you want to see an example recording. I shot this last weekend with my desire:
Guest myth1001 Posted May 31, 2010 Report Posted May 31, 2010 Coming from the HTC HD2 to Desire, I can say that the Desire has a smoother experience compared to HD2. No checkerboard in browser, faster installation of apps, etc. It might be due to the native of the OS. Winmo can be sluggish at time. However, video playback is a huge weakness of Android, at least for now.

The only thing I'd regret is the battery.... This is the weakness of the phone.
