Guest Totyasrác Posted June 1, 2010 Report Posted June 1, 2010 Well, I've been searching the topics and couldn't find the answer: what are exactly the files that need to be exchanged to a different one (or deleted) if I am satisfied with a ROM but wanna use the Vanilla contacts app? Please provide a (step-by-step) description, and provide the necessary files for the 2.1 ROMs if possible :( Cheers!

Guest igor_anta Posted June 1, 2010 Report Posted June 1, 2010 Woohooooo, got it working at last :( 1. To install the RedBull Contacts and Dialer you need the Contacts.apk and ContactsProvider.apk from the RBM rom that are located in system\app. 2. With root explorer in Paul's MCR delete both the Contacts.apk and ContactsProvider.apk and also you can delete the Dialer.apk and CallLog.apk, also you need to delete all of the accompanying .odex files as well. 3. Now just paste and run Contacts.apk and ContactsProvider.apk (paste in system\app, the same location where the originals were) and run recovery mode. In recovery go to wipe data/factory reset. Run your phone and who-ala, the awesome Contacts app is there, the only thing left is to sync. Cheers!

Is it the vanilla or is customized also? Is it possible to do it without wipe ? just deleting all the contacts before changing the apps ? Thanks

Thanks Download the RBM Rom, open the .zip and just extract the two apps, they're in system\app. You have to do the wipe, otherwise it will show a lot of FC's and It won't work like it's supposed to, but just do the data wipe, nothing else, no flashing or anything. Cheers!

Now if anyone could upload to a convenient place these files (RBM and/or pure vanilla apk files) that would be awesome :( I'll personally test this tonight when I get home. Too bad it needs data wipe though :-o (I have heard it somewhere that we may not need wipe - but erase contacts database instead... Can someone please verify this?) If more people verifies this process I'll put the description into the first post (with the links to the files if available :o) Thanks! Edited June 1, 2010 by Totyasrác

Guest goce.nakov Posted June 1, 2010 Report Posted June 1, 2010 Doesn't work for me....when I'm replacing the apk, and after wiping the data...after that my phone is stuck in boot loop.... I'm using Shadow's Vanilla based on r7 .

I deleted them but it shouldn't be any different. Maybe try this with Paul's MCR not the vanilla one, I haven't tested it on that one so I can't be sure it works, though I have no idea why it shouldn't :( Also did you install any framework or alternative boot, maybe that's the reason for the boot loop? I really have no other idea, it works for me and it's amazing, the Dialer rocks. Since you're flashing again maybe try Paul's MCR, after some modifications you can't tell it was a T-Mob ROM in the first place :( Cheers!

Guest brack Posted June 2, 2010 Report Posted June 2, 2010 A few questions for those who already applied this: When you do all listed changes what happens with links on the home screen (the t-mobile bar in the bottom of the screen)? What happen if you press green button, what window will appear? What happen if you long press menu button and start to type any name from contacts? How is Sprite backup working (restore/backup) this new contact list? If someone could reply all of those questions asap would be great.

I don't know about the home screen since I'm not using the default T-Mob one, but on mine the icons automatically changed to the new ones. On green button it's the CallLog, just the same, the difference is that here the log and dialer are together, just in different tabs. It looks it up, the search is working. Not sure about Sprite backup but I'm using MyBackup Pro and it works like it should. Also sync works. Cheers!

Encouraging, but I would like to know how the default t-mobile interface reacts on this replacement, maybe someone knows? igor_anta - I assume you already have vanilla interface since you dont have those buttons, why did you do this change then? just curios

Guest brack Posted June 2, 2010 Report Posted June 2, 2010 Because T-Mobile interface is to un practical for some ppl......it is all about the taste I used Vanilla MCR 1.7 before and I liked it but I like the buttons row on the t-mobile style, so I guess it is all bout taste as you say. Well, back to the topic - anyone combined the two, vanilla contacts and t-mobile style? see questions above.

Then maybe you can try LauncherPro (from the market)...it has same button row as T-Mobile stock but you can configure them and you can implement the dialer and contacts posted by Igor....both of us have the replacement and both of us use ADW Launcher on Paul's ROM and it's working like a charm...the only diference is that Igor replaced default home launcher with ADW thry system/app and on mine I'v just installed ADW Launcher via Market Edited June 2, 2010 by goce.nakov

They're much, much better. Also if you have the .apk of any launcher you can do the same as with the Contacts in order to replace it with the default one, that's what I did, I have ADW as my default launcher now. Cheers!

I have both apk files for launchers but would it be faster than canvas? Hard to believe though. Anyway what is exact procedure of replacing what files do I need to add/remove in system/app?
