Just wondering if anyone has ported the Evo camera to the Desire so can use its 720p feature?

I don't think the camera in the desire has the possibility to capture in 720p

Really? I thought the hardware supported it? Everyone was talking about it being available when FroYo is officially released a little while back.

I too was under the impression that the hardware supported hi-def, or is it just the Snapdragon processor that is capable

of hi-def play back?

The Snapdragon processor is capable to record 720P, HTC said it themselves. But we don't know when the 720P and the DivX support comes to us, maybe never. *sigh* HTC

That's why I was asking if anyone has ported the Evo camera :( I don't trust anything HTC say about updates anymore.

I've managed to get a copy of the Evo camera, does anyone know how I'd go about porting it myself? Do I have to change drivers around? Or maybe someone has a walkthrough of how to do it?

Had a go at this my self last night, the apk alone isnt enough and there is no kernal source yet for the Evo.

HTC have confirmed that the desire supports 720p capture, this was expected to be pushed in an update from HTC a few weeks after launch as it was not ready in time for release, but same old HTC.

would be a fantasic achievement, once the Evo kernal is up and all files available I will begin to research and attempt to port if possible.

What difference does it make if the Snapdragon can decode 720P? It's the camera sensor which will decide that.

I think that they are talking about SnapDragon able to encode in 720p... The camera sensor has to be able to take videos in 720p, but the CPU has to be capable to encode the stream as well...

and both are possible! :(

But that's useless unless the camera sensor can record at 720P. Something currently unknown.

I didn't think it was unknown? It's the same sensor as the N1 has and they have 720p kind of going, so it's entirely possible that we will have it too.
