Guest poldie Posted June 2, 2010 Report Posted June 2, 2010 Sometimes - especially after a long time in a building in central london with inexplicably poor 3d reception - my phone just refuses to connect to 3g even when in a strong 3g area. I try turning the mobile connectivity off/on and this very rarely does the trick; more often it either does nothing, or doesn't even complete. It just sits there saying `connecting`. If I turn my phone off and on again then reception is restored. My phone is fine in all other respects (wifi is very fast), and the data does work fine most of the time. Does anyone else have this problem? Is it just orange? Is there some other way of getting the resetting functionality of turning it off and on without actually doing so?

Is there some other way of getting the resetting functionality of turning it off and on without actually doing so? I had/have the same. I upgraded my radio and that's sorted the issue of data just disappearing until a reboot you mention - *YOUR PHONE MUST BE SIM-UNLOCKED* before applying the radio ROM updates to an Orange phone. At the moment though, Orange's data coverage in central London is very bad, particularly in Soho. I've spent some time on the phone to them complaining about it and they apparently have many masts that have required maintenance for some time. They're currently merging networks with T-Mobile so it would appear they simply haven't been fixing them as they knew they'd get the T-Mobile ones (according to the person I spoke to at Orange, the mast merging should be happening this month). Once the networks are merged, the data stuff should be vastly improved.
Guest loosecanon Posted June 10, 2010 Report Posted June 10, 2010 I was in London last weekend with my Orange Desire, and the 3G reception was awful - my phone's internet kept playing up constantly whilst walking around Camden market. It kept saying "connecting..." under the mobile internet settings. Wireless was fine though. A soft reset only helped for a short time. Interestingly my friend who has a Hero on Orange, was sat next to me with full 3G coverage. Halfway through the day I called Orange on 150 and after giving details of my problems, the phone call cut out, first real problem I've had with voice calls :S I don't know if they did anything but that same day I was on the train back to Manchester and the reception was fine all through the journey and has remained relatively stable since. Give those Indians a call on 150 and get it sorted :) Otherwise move to Manchester.
Guest alexspy Posted June 10, 2010 Report Posted June 10, 2010 Same problems here mate. Are you sure about this franciswills? Which radio version are you using? And why does it have to be sim-locked? I've already sim-unlocked, can't see how to go back.

He said it has to be sim unlocked because if it is still locked to Orange, updating the radio version will network lock the phone
Guest franciswills Posted June 11, 2010 Report Posted June 11, 2010 It does appear the radio upgrade was a red herring. I have since had several data problems but then so have my friends on Orange with different phones. Orange have acknowledged on the phone to me that their are coverage/bandwidth holes in Central London and I'm getting close to the point now where I'm going to leave them for another network.
