Is the algorithm tweakable for adjust screen brightness?

I have it set on auto, but when I am in bright sunlight it does not bump the brightness to 100% making the screen unredabale.

I tested indoors by covering the sensor and the screen does dim so the whole thing is working, just not as I would like.

I think it's an Android thing. But yeah a calibration tool would be nice to say in these settings I want this brightness, at another env a dimmer setting, and then it auto adjusts in between.
