Can someone help me, I've had mp SPV for about 2 months now and over the last month or so it keeps going into what I can only call 'standby mode' I can leave the phone on in my pocket for maybe 10 minutes or sometimes an hour, then when I go to use it, the screen has gone blank and there is nothing I can do to get it back again, I can't even turn it on or off, so I have to remove the battery and put it back on. This is the only way to fix it. Orange want to charge me £30 now and £5 Orange care every month which is a rip off, and it has already been off to Hayes Repair Centre, and returned to me as supposedly fixed. Before I go mental ot Orange can someone tell me if this seems familiar and if so, how they fixed it ;)

I think you have a faulty SPV!

My SPV has locked playing Doom or GameBoy Emulator but I have never experienced what you have described. I signed up for Orange Care so I would get a replacement phone in 24hours. My advice would be to go through the Orange Care route. I assume they want to charge you 30quid because you didnt inititally sign up for Orange Care. It may be your cheapest option in the long run...

Thanks, I may have to do that but it does seem very expensive for something thats only 2 months old, I dont understand why they dont issue warrantys with their phones

I personally haven't read my warranty so Im not sure what else you can do really.

Can anyone else help us out? - If you have your warranty handy maybe you can check it and let muppetboy1000 know where he stands. Im guessing but they will probably tell you that whatever is wrong with your phone is not covered by the warranty. They are normally worded in a devious way to ensure they only pay out when they have to.

I think all electronic items sold in the UK have to have a 12-month warranty. However this is usually with the manufacturer (HTC in this case) and usually involves repairing the phone not replacing it, so you could be without your phone while it's being fixed :-(

Orange Care however issues replacements and is really good and definitely worth a fiver a month (read this thread: http://www.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=2398 for others comments).

Unfortunately, loads of people have had this bug and there isn't really a definite fix for it. I returned mine for a replacement within the first 14 days at Carphone W. and the one I've got now has only done this hangup once, a week ago. You're right, there's nothing to do but pull the battery. Have a look around on other threads, lots of people have discussed this.

If it has already been away for repair and is faulty again I would demand a replacement or refund. It obviously isn't suitable for the purpose it was sold for. As if the other bugs aren't enough!

Simon.

I've just got off the phone to orange, unless I have Orange care they dont want to know. Apparantly my warranty is with Hayes so I need to take it up with them, I've spoken to them about it and they are taking it in for the second time, if its still playing up when it comes back, I think there may be some serious ass whooping!!!!

But does it sound like a bug in the phone as according to Hayes the last time they had it they 'reset the software' shouldn't that have fixed it???? :x

This sounds like one of the current known bugs with the SPV.

A replacement handset is going to have the same problems.

There should be a software update coming in the next few weeks, that will fix most of the problems with the SPV. Until then, we just have to put up with it.
