Adding new ROM to desire after rooting

Ok I have rooted my desire using the linux R4 option after trying, without success, to use the R5 Windows option.

Anyway, I have searched and searched and searched to find how to add a new ROM to my phone without any success. It is all quite confusing and requires wading through hundreds of pages in many different topics to find the information I need. I am sure this is mundane, everyday stuff to most people here but there are a few of us who have no idea and are still trying to find our feet.

I am after a step by step method to add the new ROm to my phone.

I am also after a step by step method to get A2SD working.

At the moment I am entering recovery on my phone and get the red triangle.

What do I do to get the ROM working and what do I need to do to partition my 16gb SD card and what do I need to do to get A2SD working on it?

My phone is freshly rooted and has nothing else on it.

Thankyou in advance for any and all help to this noob

cheers

Then when you get to the recovery console, wipe and then flash update.zip from sdcard.

hi

thanks for the reply. I managed to figure out how to get to recovery using recover-windows.bat from pushfiles. Is it ok going this way noting I used the linux CD to root the phone?

I have copied a couple o9f different versions of ROMs (Paul's 3.1 and an Aussie version) both come up with errors. I have also tried renaming them to update.zip and copying them across to the SD for use.

what am I missing here?

cheers

probably wont be much of a help, and not 100% sure if I am correct but maybe you need to flash them off your gold card if your not already unless your device is unbranded. as for the recovery-windows.bat file i use it all the time, on windows 7 x64 and never had any problems, apart from the old version of the recovery used to freeze on the menu from time to time but battery remove used to solve my problem at that point.
